Building a PC for a friend
Hey guys. I'm building a PC for a friend, and was wondering if these parts are all compatible, and if there are cheaper alternatives for them. This system is mostly for gaming and theater, so I'm looking for really high quality video and audio.
DVD Drive - LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with 12X DVD-RAM write and LightScribe Technology Black E-IDE/ATAPI Model DH-20A3H-06 - OEM - 29.99 Case - RAIDMAX Smilodon Extreme Black ATX-612WEB SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer CaseNo Power Supply - Retail - 79.99 HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - 84.99 Video Card - XFX PVT88PYDD4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail - 309.99 Power Source - FSP Group FX600-GLN V2.2/EPS12V 600W Power Supply - Retail - 119.99 RAM - CORSAIR 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G - Retail - 139.99 MB - ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - 126.99 CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz LGA 775 65W Processor Model BX80557E4500 - Retail - 124.99 OS - Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Basic for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM 94.99 Total - 1,162.90 I'm not looking to use SLI, so I'm going for an 8800. Really looking to utilize DX10 as well. Budget is $1200, but if there's any way to reduce price but keep the same quality, that'd be nice. Just wondering, does the 8600 support DX10? Thanks guys. |

Change that lite-on drive to a sata connection. and make it retail, so you get nero with it.
Might want to up the processor a bit. If you need to shave some money off, then just get 2gb of ram. Other then that, it looks good. Don't forget keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

Oh yeah, forgot to make the DVD drive SATA. Rushed that part a bit.
I was originally getting a better CPU, but on the build I run, I use the same thing, only thing I'm lacking is the video card. I've never had any kind of major performance hits, and I do alot of multi-tasking. The person I'm bulding this for won't be multitasking alot. Mostly being able to minimize to Firefox while playing a game and not have the computer lock up is what he wants. Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor are all covered. Buying that at a local store. Decided to really go high with the RAM and Vid card, cause he's really looking to be able to run newer games smoothly for awhile. I'm not sure if these parts will be what we're using when we get the parts, as we're getting them around March. I'm assuming the price of these parts will have dropped a pretty good amount. I do plan to switch some things around come March when the parts are actually being bought. Thanks for the help guys. |

If you're buying in March, then don't worry about looking at prices or parts till february. Things change quickly, and by then there will be better parts available, and better prices on todays best parts.
