PC won't boot! HELP!

i recently built my own pc. it's running on windows vista home premium. however, this morning went I went to boot it up, the screen did nothing and all that happened was that the computer made one long, then two short beeping sounds. It repeated these three beeps over and over and I can't figure out anything to do. Help!!!

One long, two short is usually memory related...could be system memory (RAM) or could be video memory (on the video card).

Please post the complete specs for this computer. List all the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Do you have compatible spare parts you can swap in to test with?

When troubleshooting you'll want the motherboard out of the case on a non-conductive surface.

Do you have multiple sticks of RAM? Try using one at a time.

It's set for 2 x 1 GB. That's what I'm using. So you're recommending I just take one out at a time?

Yup, could be a bum stick. Or a bum DIMM slot, so try different slots too.

Got it. It must have been one of the DIMM slots becasue I just shifted them both up to the next slot and it works. Thanks a lot!

You could try moving them back, they might not have been seated properly.
