CRASH New Build, Problem Booting

Dear Forum,
I just assembled a new comp. and after connecting the monitor, keyboard and power cord I got an unusual start up sequence.

After pushing in the start button the LED for the power button flashed once and the fans started up. About 6-8 seconds in the reset button LED flashes and the board powers down. Then... maybe 5 seconds later it powers up again, all fans running. During the whole Boot there is no video.

It could be alot of things at once but I am going through the connections now and I am still lost as to what to do next.

the equipment is ....

ASUS P5K Motherboard, AI Lifestyle

E6600

(2) One Corsair MGB simms

Ultra 500 watt Power Supply

Western Digital 300 GB Hard Drive/Sata\

Pioneer Optical Drive

P182 Antec Case

EVGA 8800GT

If you can, replace the Ultra power supply with another compatible one. Ultra's are not very good.

You might want to try the out-of-case-troubleshooter too.

Thank you Cricket. I will try to use the link as a guide. For now I am going to try the Ultra till I see some sign of failure. Its 500watts and has enough power in the rails to cover this build I believe.

If you know another guide to boot problems please link it aswell. I am still having problems

The problem isn't whether the Ultra has enough power, it's whether the power that is going to the computer is "clean" or "dirty" or whether it's even where it should be on each rail. If any of the rails isn't where it should be your computer won't boot up.

PC Mech was doing a review on Ultra power supplies not long ago and 3 out of 4 test units were either DOA or faulty right out of the box.

For this type of problem I strongly suggest trying another compatible power supply first.

I am having the same problem with one exception: my pc was functioning like it should, from my initial build, for the past 48 hours. That is, it worked fine an hour ago. Now the green led lights up when power is connect to the pc, then when i press the power button the case fans and internal leds light up briefly then stop before POSTing, this is repeated indefinitely.

No beeps, no hdd wind up, nothing. Out of case troubleshooting has been done and I am inches away from RMAing the mobo. Is there any reason to believe that this is not a motherboard failure?

ASUS P5K-E/WiFi
Intel E6850
Corsair XMS2 2x1gb 1066
MSI NX8600GTS (GeForce 8600GTS)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 400gbs (x2, RAID 0)
Nexus NX-4080 real silent psu (400 watts)
samsung SH-S203B dvd burner
atech flash card reader
