My CPU runs at around 50*C idle after 15 mins of running in the bios. The CPU I am using is the e6750, no overclocking, runnign straight out of the box with stock cooler. Should I concerned about the temperature, or is this normal? I checked the cooler to see if it was loose (one of the pins were loose before, which probably explained my 65*C), but it seems to be nice and snug. The cooling gel is thin and even. Please reply on this as I don't know if I should keep a stick of dry ice handy or not.
As for the rest of my system, in case it would help with the problem: Motherboard: EVGA 680I-T1 (a friend of mine got me a great deal on this one, it was brand new of course and I had no trouble with it so far) Power Supply: Thermaltake 600W RAM: OCZ Platinum 2G 800Mhz (running at 4-4-4-15 timings) The graphic card I did the bios testing with: ATI 9200 (a dusty classic) |

I would make sure that the heatsink is properly installed.
Also, how ot is the room that the computer is in?

The room is at 25*C, also the fan is spinning at 1400 to 1500 rpm.

Then the heatsink isn't seated properly, or bios is reading it wrong.
After you put the heatsink on, did you remove it? If so, did you reapply thermal paste? |

No, I did not reapply thermal paste, as the CPU didn't come with a tube. So it might be the paste after all? And if so, what paste do you think I should get?

You normally don't have to apply any with a retail processor cause the heatsink comes with some on it, but if you tried the heatsink, and then removed it, you would have to replace the paste.
Did you remove the heatsink after you used it? |

Yeah, after I first tested everything in bios, I got that insane 65*C reading, I checked the heatsink, took it out and put it back in. While taking it out I noticed one of the four connector was loose, so the heatsink wasn't in properly. I put eveything back, made sure its on good, turned on the computer, and got the 50*C reading.

My guess is that you will have to remove that paste that's on there, and reapply some new one. Then reseat the heatsink properly. That should take care of the problem.
Some good thermal pastes, from what I've read is Artic Silver 5, I'm using MX-2 now and it works nicely. |
