Not 100% sure what type of P4 proc your MB supports but it appears to be the 478 pin Zif socket (Pescott or Norwood). That is a pretty old socket type and may be a bit hard to find now a days. I use Fry's and Tiger Direct for many of my PC upgrade stuff (have the stores nearby), but doubt they will still carry these. Try online for something like this. Check with G W to verify the proper CPU. You will see a pretty big jump to a 2.8-3.0 P4 from a lame Celeron and they over clock very well. I am still running a P4 Prescott in one of my older PC's. It is a 2.8 and I have it OC to around 3.4 Mhz and stable..

Here are a couple video cards I recommend. Your MB only supports 4x AGP and not 8x but they will still work. They run between $50 and $75. Verify Vista drivers 1st, but many should support it..

What would you over all budget be. It would be better for you in the long run to build a budget machine rather than trying to upgrade your current system.. For instance that psu gateway suggested is not a good quality unit.. Here is a link of psu to buy and stay away from.. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 And if you upgrade any parts you would be better off buying from places like newegg than getting it from gateway which is way over priced..

Why do you want to run Vista Ultimate on such an old computer anyway?

its not that old and its running vista Ultimate now just needs a speed increase and better agp card

plus why buy a new one when the old one will work just fine with 2 or 3 upgrades ones it runs vista real good you can use any software that comes out for vista then

and i have been wanting to max out the upgrades any ways

i have int really decided to keep vista on it yet and it needs to be faster for xp any ways its a bit sluggish for some reason with xp

Actually a 4-5 year old computer is getting pretty aged, but I guess thats just opinion. The reason why it's not very smart to upgrade is that the performance increase that the upgrades would give would not be very cost efficient. And all of the parts on that computer are obsolete now.

I wouldn't buy parts from Gateway since it's likely to cost more.

The best combo I could think of is a cheap P4(assuming someone sells a compatible one) plus a cheap Video card and a cheap PSU. Anything more I think you would be throwing you money away.

I notice you told one of the reps you use this for gaming?

Your limited on the CPUs that you can up-grade to since that motherboard has a max533mhz bus speed. That pretty much eliminates the 800mhz P4 Northwoods and Prescotts. About the fastest your can use is an P4 2.8B Northwood 533mHz, if you can find one.
