New System, won't start up...

I just rebuilt my computer. All the parts are new. The only old parts are the Hard Drive and CD Rom.

I got everything plugged in except for a few of the front panel connectors that I haven't figured out yet. The first time I started the beast up, it went to the bios load screen, then gave me an error saying something like "Floppy disk(s) fail (40)". I ignored it and pressed F1 to boot up. It moved on, but right where the Windows boot screen would normally start, it just went blank rather.

I decided maybe it was the Floppy Boot problem. I found out how to fix that in the bios by shutting off the floppy (I don't even have one).

After that I went to boot it up and this time it didn't even bother to go to the bios load screen, it simply moved right to the blank screen.

Anyone know what this is and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

Collin

You didn't say you reinstalled the operating system, but you're using your old hard drive.

The old operating system installation won't work with your new motherboard.

You'll need to reinstall.

Update

This problem occurred on my system before I got new hardware, so I don't think it's the hardware.

I get the Mobo boot screen just fine now, but once it tries to go to boot windows, it's no go. Just a blank screen.

Once or twice, I had it open up the screen where it asks me if I want to boot in safe mode. about 2 seconds later it freezes up.

I got the XP disc, put it in the CD rom and set the machine to boot from CD first in the bios. Still no luck even booting the XP disc.

Have you run RAM and harddrive diagnostics on that machine?

OK, so your good as far as hardware is concerned, but as stated above because your trying to use the already loaded HD from another loaded PC it won't boot due to driver issues. The best way is to boot from the XP cdrom and do a repair installation if you want to try and not loose any data.

It won't boot from CD. It goes to that screen.

I've had a few random things happen ever other boot or so. One time it gave me this error.. still won't boot from CD tho.

\system32\hal.dll

something about that file missing.. but i can't get xp cd to boot anyway.

Just because equipment is new doesn't mean it cannot be faulty, also the harddrive is the original.

Ah.. sometimes crazy problems have simple answers.. I got it figured out.

I didn't notice that the CD Rom wasn't set to slave, and the bios wasn't reading it.. hence not loading from CD.. the Windows Setup is working now.

Sorry for bugging you all despite my stupidity!

Thanks for the support... hence why I always come back
