Help needed with XP installation

I`ve built a new pc on a small budget.Ive built a couple before and never really have any problems with the OS install (windows xp pro).

This time however its driving me nuts.

ok the hardware is as follows

Foxconn case with 450 watt power supply

gigabyte motherboard model name is GA-M61P-S3 rev.1.0
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ProductID=2434

AMD sempron 3600+ with the fan
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2004

a 1 gig stick of ram

DVD rewriter

floppy drive

no gfx card cos the board I was assured could handle World of warcraft and thats good enough for me.

Im addicted its sad I know.

So anyway I have a sata drive and I need to install the drivers, when it gets to the bit where you have to insert the disc with the raid drivers , I get a message to insert disc labelled manufacturers driver. I have tried every driver known to man from the disc supplied and the gigabyte website and still no joy.

So I gave up and put in an old ata drive in the ide slot (10 gig tiny drive) xp installs no problems, yay.

So I know that will work I go out and buy a decent sized drive a 160 gig Maxtor. xp seems to load ok until it gets to the restart and it wont.

Instead of restarting i get a press anykey to boot from cd message , then it starts the install from the beginning again, it goes through formatting the disc then copying setup files then it hits the restart, PC restarts and I get the press any key to boot from cd message and it begins all over again. with the setup is examining your hardware and the format etc.

If anyone can help me, youd be saving my sanity.

Not sure I quite get what you're saying but if its installed you dont want to boot from the disk again. Change your boot order so you go from the hard drvie?

You're using the SATA RAID driver version 6.92 right?

If you still have your 10GB hard drive installed with xp on it, there is a very easy solution. Download a program called maxtor maxblast, and use it to set up and format your 160GB hard drive. Once that is done, there will be an option in the maxtor maxblast program called clone disc. Use this option to clone your 10GB hard drive partition onto your 160GB hard drive. You can also use this approach if you use a Sata hard drive as well. Once you do this, change to boot order to have your better hard drive boot first.
