Computer wont start

Hello,

This is the second computer i built and here are the specs: (Parts not from Newegg)

-Intel DG965OT MoBo http://www.intel.com/products/mother...65OT/index.htm
-2.2 GHz E4500 intel processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115031
-160GB Western Digital SATA HD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136062
-A certain CD/DVD drive (Keep forgeting it, but if you need to know exact, please tell me)
-Thermaltake 430W Power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023
-Coolmaster Elite 330/331 Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119118
-Patriot Memory 2GB 1 stick http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6&sku=P33-5052

Came with powersupply, but i wanted a better one for the future when i start putting in more things that requires power....

So far i do not have a videocard separately bought as this will be my parents computer and they dont require it..

Although this is my second build, i do believe i got the wiring correct, but i cant say for sure due to the problem..

The problem is that, once i finished building everything and connected all, i try to turn it on by connecting the power supply and switching the machine on. I wanted to test it, to see if it would at least turn on first, but it did not. There is a green light in the board that does light up, and also the switch light on the tower does turn on, but all it does it turn on the fans for a second or 2, and it stops. I had the back fan connected directly to the power supply and the other fan directly to the mobo as it is on top of the processor. They both turn for a little and stops.. I changed the back fan to connect to the mobo directly and this time, the back fan didnt turn at all. I also tested it by connecting it to the moniter, but nothing shoes up..

I have changed the RAM, the mobo, and also the power supply to see if they were the problem, but it still does the same thing. It lights up, but the rest doesnt work..

Please tell me if there are any wiring i should check and such as help would be much appreciated.

Next to the cpu is a fan header labeled cpu_fan or something similar. Make sure you're heatsink fan is connected there. Also make sure you connect the 4 pin, square power plug that has a connector also near the cpu.

Sorry checked again and the fan for the back of the tower didnt turn on since i didnt push the pin into the mobo completely..

The four pin plug is connected directly from the powersupply. I have done this and it still wont start for some reason..

Is the build still in the case? You may need to pull it and assemble it bare bones on a table top. Follow HAL's Troubleshooting Guide for the steps.

*sorry ignore this post didnt realize this was previously checked*

Is the 4pin cpu power connector connected? If you forgot to connect that 4pin/8pin connector the cpu may not power up as this is extra voltage for todays more demanding CPU's.

Yes, i did try it out and it worked that way so i found out that my board and such are not the problem.. My only guess is the wiring, but i really cant see what i am doing wrong.

It works out of the case fine? Maybe check your stand-offs and screws to be sure nothing is touching the board where it should not be, causing a short.

Ok, i checked it again, and it doesnt work when its inside the box.. I did the same setup as HAL's guide, only inside the box, but it seems cause a short.. I only did screw the proper area, but i still cant find the problem..(sorry that i dont know but what is the stand-offs that i should check?)

These are brass standoffs.

The standoffs screw into the motherboard mounting tray and the motherboard is placed on the standoffs and then the screws hold the motherboard down.

Microsoft has a lengthy article on x07B errors here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103

It's usually something to do with your hard drive. Since it is a SATA drive, did you install the drivers from the floppy using F6 prior to installing XP?

Found this in a different thread from last month:

what you do is this....

download the Sata "Floppy" driver (may be called F6 drivers) from the motherboard site...

read the instructions and put them on the floppy as it states....

If memory serves....you just need to format a floppy and run the file you downloaded and it will make the floppy for you....

then you build the rig with the Sata drive installed....boot to the XP CD and at the beginning of the blue screen it will say to load additional driver press F6...

Do so a few times then wait for it....then supply the floppy in the drive and select the correct drivers....

you will have drivers for SATA as a base or RAID....you'll want the regular SATA drivers....

Also make sure you set the bios up for all the satas as a base...or you'll always get the raid boot screen....

Boot order must be set to SCSI to boot from Sata and then set the sata type in the overclocking utility to BASE....

hitting Ctrl+F1 gives you all the advanced options in the bios....

You're getting this on a brand new installation? Are you able to get into Control Panel? Go there and see what User Accounts are listed.
