Question Windows XP Install/Setup problem. Help!

Ok, I'm trying to find out what the problem is. When I install win xp it does the formatting and then when it does the setup in percentages it gives me error messages saying some .dll files were not copied correctly. I've tried diff OS disks, new hard drive, new mobo, new PS, and when it goes to the setup after the formatting I still get bunch of these .dll and .sys error messages not being copied. What gives? After 3 OS disks, I doubt its the cd. Has to be hardware problem right?

Is this a clean install? Or are you attempting to overwrite a previously installed OS.

If its a clean install check the bios to make sure its detecting the harddrive correctly.

If it isnt reseat the cables or try a different port.

If it is detecting the drive boot to CD.

when you go to install delete the previous partitions you made and start fresh.

When it goes to format the partition use NTFS and make sure that it does a full format.

A full format will check for bad sectors and mark them if it sees bad sectors.

It sounds to me like windows is putting files in bad sectors and then when it goes to use the data link library (.DLL) files it cannot read them.

If this doesnt work try taking this drive out and using it as a slave in another system, boot up and run the drives diagnostic tool on it. If it passes then well have to see what else it can be. I do know that its impossible that you have 3 bad MS xp cd's giving the exact same problem.

Yes, its a brand new harddrive and it detects the harddrive in BIOS and everything. It does this on both motherboards as well. Its a clean install and I deleted all partitions and fresh copy using ntfs full format. It formats it all perfectly and when it does the setup, it starts acting up after 20%. You think it could be processor? Thats the only hardware I haven't swapped out yet. I have another spare harddrive, I'm gonna try it on that one and see if it does same thing. I had a problem with my original drive saying certain .dlls were missing when I logged into windows....so I bought new hard drive so I would not lose the old harddrive info and now it has errors during setup on new drive. This is so confusing for me.

Unless your CPU isn't' unsupported by your BIOS it's unlikely it's the CPU. I agree, it sound like it may be the hard drive.

Go into the BIOS and make sure the BIOS antivirus is disabled, the antivirus software within the BIOS could be preventing some files from being written to the harddrive.

I made sure I have all the special features off such as superboot, antivirus, bios shadow and cache, etc....even does it on other harddrives as well. I'm thinking its maybe the processor going bad? Still doing it exactly same place at 20% on setup. So I've tried all hardware such as mobo, drives, cdroms, cables, ps, video card and it all still does same thing one way or another. The CPU is the only thing I haven't tried since I just ordered one and have to wait 3 days from newegg.

If you are using more than one stick of RAM, take them out and leave only one stick.
If you have any spare use the smallest of all to do the install.
