First boot problems

I went to do my first boot on a build today. When I pushed the power button the power does come on with all of the lights and everything, but the PSU (or something) makes a loud whining noise. Everything else with the setup seems correct except for the whining sound. How do I troubleshoot it?

Take the side cover off and listen closely, try to establish which fan is making the noise.

could be a psu problem. What type of psu are you using?

When I opened the case and listened the noise appeared to be coming from my video card. I removed the video card and the whining sound went away.

I figured out the problem, there is a 6-pin PCI-E power connector that supplies power from the PSU to the graphics card and it wasn't hooked up. The whining went away when the power was supplied.
