New Motherboard Installation
I've ordered a motherboard recently, as well as a new processor, video card, and already own the correct RAM (at least to my knowledge). I had to purchase these you see, because my old motherboard was way out of date, and was beginning to fail.
The question I have is, is it a difficult situation to install a new motherboard, processor, video card, and memory? Or is it just going to be; click it in and start it up? Do I need to install the new drivers BEFORE I put in the new motherboard? Or once again, is it just going to be a case of switching it out and everything working out? You are going to have to reinstall windows or whatever operating system you use once you replace the motherboard and processor. You will be able to install the drivers after you reinstall the operating system.

The OS doesn't have to be totally reinstalled. You can just do a Repair install when you put the old hard drive in the new machine. You won't lose all your data that way.

glc posted somewhere that you should also revert back to basic IDE drives and the like. That way, the machine may actually even boot with a new motherboard. I'll be trying that out myself (hopefully) today.
Also, remove all related software for items being replaced, like your vid card. Set that to standard VGA. |

If however, the old system WILL still run, you can do what TR suggested. Go into Device Manager and remove any components from the list that won't be in the new system. Then look in Device Manager for the IDE Controllers listing and expand it out. There should be one or two bus master controllers under there. Go into the Properties of each bus master controller and find the Update Driver tab and click it. Select "Pick from list" and when that comes up, select "Standard Dual IDE Controller". Apply the changes and Okay back out of there and it *should* be ready to go in to the new machine without the "Inaccessible boot device" error coming up. |

It does boot. I'm on it right now. Thank you for the more in depth answer, I'll be doing that when the parts arrive.
