System not booting/crashing

I've been using the same homebuilt PC for about three years now. Here are the basic specs:

UL8 Abit motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 3200 processor
Standard 450w ATX power source
ATI Radeon x1300 video card

Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when my hard drive failed. I went out and bought a new SATA hard drive. When I went to install it, my system powered on, but the computer didn't boot, didn't post, didn't send any signal to my monitor. So I came to the forums and tried removing all my components save a stick of memory and a video card. I got the system to boot back up, put a few components back in, and before I knew it I was up and running, installing Windows and everything.

Later I tried putting in a few more sticks of memory, but I started having the same problem with the system not booting, so I only used the one stick that I knew worked. I was in the middle of downloading some updates when my display turned off and my system made a noise like it was powering down, only the power was still on. I tried rebooting and the same original error started happening: no boot, no post, no display. I tried swapping out the memory again and nothing worked.

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing my system to not boot properly, again?

Try testing the power supply. If you are using known good working parts that dont cause any type of conflicts and its still flaking it that can be a sign of a PSU about to commit suicide. Transformers tend to go fast in anything that converts ac to dc, when they start to go they might not be converting the power correctly. Which can cause the system to be unstable but yet still be on.

A bad psu can make all the fans run but not boot the pc.

Either swap out witha known good psu or try putting a multi meter to the psu connectors when theya re on the board.
