PC Took a dump

Alright well my comp took a dump. Here are the two basic errors I got.

1) This came up the first time around

" A faital error has occured. press ctrl/alt/delete to restart the comp.

After I did this sometimes it would come back to this screen and then sometimes it would load to the desktop but extremely slowly. Even when it would go to the desktop, I clicked on one application and it would take forever for it to load. It wouldn't matter what it was. So the computer got so slow that I had to restart and then it gave me this error.

2) Windows failed to load because the system registry is missing or corrrupt.

I have no idea how this happened. I had no virus or spyware because I run scans all the time. But here is my setup.

2 gigs og corsair ram
intel e6600 2.4 gig dual core
vista premium
7600 GT card
segate 7200 350 gig
NZXt Case
Sunbeam PSU 500 watt

This is all under a year old. So did my hard drive take a dump or what?
