AMD Spider Platform

Okay so I am stuck building a new pc.... House was broken into and had a few things stolen.... well the only things that really upset me that are gone is my grand fathers service weapon when he worked with the LAPD Swat. His badge. and my Freakin computer. they stole other crap but that was covered on my insurance (hadnt added my pc to the policy and the other was just well ment alot to me) anyway nuff of that.

I have a budget of $2000 but that has to include everything. and i was looking into AMD's new spider platform

AMD Phenom Agena 2.3ghz
VisionTek Radeon HD 3870
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 AM2+ with the new 790 chipset
2gb of ddr2 1066

i have the other components figured out but i was wondering if anyone had built a system that is similar to this and/or if anyone had seen reviews on how well this works or if anyone had any comments on whether its too early to get into the AMD quad core game. i have looked at intel stuff but i am an AMD guy at heart so i would prefer to stick with them. any comments would be helpful thanks!

You have probably already done your homework, but I personally think the spider platform is still too new to really jump into. Even AMD admits that at this time it is not a challenge to the Intel high end processors. Also, not being a fan of the cost to benefit increase of SLI, I can not see how 4 video cards is ever going to pay.

I would love to see AMD hit a home run but reading the articles that have been written on the spider platform so far I am just not sure this is it. If you have not seen them, here are a couple in-depth reviews on AMDs new platform.

yeah i have read that the am2 boards were supposed to be compatible but i was actually planning on a am2+ also i listed the wrong board i was looking at
GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128074

i see that there has been some issues with memory but it seems that the problems are mainly with people using a x2 processor..... hmm i guess it will stay in the research stage for about a month before i decide... and i have to say intel quad core in tempting cause its been out longer but i have a hard time seeing too many problems if the package is designed to work together.... then again i guess anything looks good on paper lol..... please leave your ideas because i am baffled at this current time as to what to do
