New Comp

I am very new to this stuff and im planning on building a new computer with parts. I am mostly going to use the computer for gaming and was wondering what parts I should use. My budget is somewere around $3000 and want the around best stuff that I could get for that amount of money.

I was thinking about getting a ASUS Maximmus Extreme Mother Board.
Also a Q6600 CPU

Any suggestions will be apreciated. Please respond as soon as possible.

Do you have an existing monitor, mouse, and keyboard? Either way you can get a lot stronger processor then a Q6600 for 3k or a very solid system for quite a bit less. Are you looking for bleeding edge or just a good solid gaming system?

I wish I had $3,000 to spend on a build! Definitly go wish a quad core CPU, and at least two video cards. I know that with some mobos you can put up to 4 video cards in, if you do that make sure you get a monster power supply along with it. Let us know what you are going to use your machine for and then we can help you pick out the right parts.

Thank you for responding. Yes i am planning on getting a bleeding edge and I do not have the monitor, mouse and the keyboard yet. The reason im getting the Q6600 is because even with 3k i wont be able to get the bleeding edge. So in the future i will plan to upgrade to a better CPU. Now here are the parts i am planning to buy.

I couldnt decide on what Full Tower case i can get or the Monitor either. Please tell me any recomandations that you might have on the Tower Case or Monitor. Also i would like to have a Cooling system with the Case. Please respond and Thank you. The price for what i put up already is $1987 so i still have some money to spend.

The build looks good, and should give you a good upgrade path in the future. DDR3 is somewhat slow at the moment because of latency issues, and is quite expensive when compared to DDR2. Regarding the case you mentioned, I haven't heard of it before, so I can't really recommend it, water cooling is used mostly for overclocking. The case I suggested has been used almost exclusively by Overdrive PC for their overclocked computers, so even if you are to overclock, this case will let you use the stock cooler and still get great overclocking and temperatures. If you do get the case I suggested, it's recommended you get 4x120mm fans for the side door if you want tto overclock or have really good cooling.

Change the dvd burner to a sata connection.

Also, if you're willing to spend that much and want the best possible gaming system, try to sli 2 8800 ultra's. Those are top of the line right now.

You might have to get a different power supply for that though.

2 8800 ultra's will cost over $1500, won't work with the current motherboard, and won't give enough of a performance boost over 2 HD3870s to warrant the price difference ($1000 difference). I've heard that some people are having trouble with SATA drives, so it depends on the quality of the drive first, then on the connection (SATA really doesn't make any difference in performance unless you're going for blu-ray or hd-dvd).

Thank you for the response and i do thank you for saying my build is good. Also thank you for being right that the mobo wouldnt support nvidia cards like the other person recommended ill put up some new questions later. I also might buy the monitor you recomended. Keep the comments coming ty all.

Doing watercooling is generally done by people that do heavy OCing and/or want a quiet system. Generally, prebuilt WC cases or WC kits are not of consistent good quailty for all the parts. And they probably won't cool any better than good air cooling. Learning how to do water cooling on a high dollar first time build isn't a wise move.
