Unhappy replacement parts problems

my younger brother has managed to save up enough money to buy a crappy 10 year old computer, so i offered to do a little work on it. so i replaced the RAM and put in an ATI rage 128 meg (yeh how old) vid card in, problem is monitor doesn't show a picture now, am i right in assuming i just swap back to the old one and install the driver (if it is still available).

also i have a 60 gig IDE HD which i stole from another old computer which isn't being picked up by the computer, when the computer boots up it detects the master HD but gets stuck on detecting primary slave, if i swap the HD to master no HD gets detected at all. my theory was that this HD is formatted as C: which is conflicting with the other HD but i don't know what to do about it.

my second theory and most likely the case is that most parts i stole from a old apple G3. would this be the case?

Need more info on the specs for the 10 year old computer and the parts you are trying to install to really figure out what the conflict is. But I will say if you are mixing intel and apple parts you probably have a problem, although many can be traded you will have to be much more specific on what the parts are to be sure.

If you pulled that drive out of an Apple, it's in all likelihood formatted in a filesystem unrecognizable by windows. If the drive is not picked up in the bios setup, it's probably dead.

Re your graphics card, did you remove the driver for the old card before installing the ati card? If not, reinstalling the old card should restore the system to it's prior condition. If you did, you will have to reinstall the driver for the old card to get full performance.
