Building a PC for the first time

Hello, I am attempting to build a PC for the first time and I believe I have all of my components selected. I would like to share them and see what you think of them or if you would advise choosing something different. I plan on mostly using this for fairly heavy multi-tasking and possibly some light gaming. I am interested in having fast RAM and a fast Intel CPU and a capable video card. I'll also be running Vista Home Premium. Here's what I came up with:

for the money you have pick what I can see to be the best picks... Ide probably suggest a different Mobo, I have been noticing alot of bad reviews on stability with the Asus SLI boards. Unless you plan to utilize the SLI and work with it. Then Ide suggest a different route. (not downing SLI as im building an SLI system. But im taking into consideration im going to have to work with the board) So if your not gonna use SLI save yourself the possible headache

this abit is only +$35 after the rebate, & has much better stability ratings and will still utilize your processor and current config, also supposed to be very easy to OC for first time users.

but i am still very much an amatuer so take my info for what it is...

Unless you're going to overclock, then that ram is overkill. Save some money and drop it down to ddr2 800.

Also, Explicity is right about the mb. If you're not going to use sli, then you might be better served with a different mb. The p5k series is highly recommended around here, and has been proven stable.

I am not even sure the 650I support the new 1333 FSB CPUs but overall I agree with the others, stay away from SLI on your build and go for a newer P35 Mobo. The P5K series is very stable with that processor.

If "light gaming" means playing and enjoying any of the newer games comming out, I would highly recommend moving up to the lower end of the 8800 series or the Radion 3850 series. The 8600 will play most games but you will be required to turn down the setting quite a bit to get a decent FPS. It is just not a true gamer. It all depends on your definition of "light" .

Dont forget to buy an OS.

For an additional $200 the 8800GT 512 will allow you to play the new games...Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Oblivion etc.... not at high settings but still playable frame rates.

Thanks for the help guys. So it sounds like the p5k is a pretty solid mobo, what do you guys think of this one for my set-up?

That's a good mb. I'm using that with a e6750 myself.

Just know that it doesn't support sli.
