New computer build

Long time reader, first time poster. Anytime i needed computer advice, i always found what i was looking for on PC mech. So when i finally took the plunge to do my first build, i hoped to get some good advice on the products i choose.

I'm looking to spend around 1500, and want a build i can have for a while without it being outdated. Any advice on the products i choose, or if i should pick something else would be awesome. I do alot of gaming and it would be nice to have a system to run at high settings

Not bad.

The power supply is overkill. I would suggest something like the Corsair 550.

Also, that memory is a bit much too. I would just get standard Corsair xms DDR2 800 cas 5.

Don't forget a cd drive. For a nice dvd burner look at lite-on sata retail drives.

You also need an operating system, monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

I dont know much about the X38 chip so can not comment on the Mobo.

The list looks good but you need to add a something to load you OS. I would recommend you look at a basic lite-on burner (sata) and if you go retail you get Nero with it.

The PSU is overkill. Since you are not building on an SLI board I can not immagin you ever requiring 1000 w. You can probably drop down to 550-600 watts and have plenty of head room for future upgrades.

Thanks for the suggestions. I updated the power supply and ram to

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817341002

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145175

And the dvd burner

http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827106057

And put a copy of vista in there as well.

If anyone else has any more suggestions on the items, id be glad to hear them.
Also if anyone had a suggestion on an aftermarket cooling, fans, etc, or if that would even be necessary.

If you aren't going to OC, the case fans and the CPU cooler that comes with the CPU should provide good cooling.
