First PC build in several years, this is what I'm thinking.
Been away from the PC world for a long time.
Right now I am running AMD 2500+ MSI k7n2 Delta mobo MSI 6600gt nvidia 1 Gig of Ultra Mem Ultra 400watt PS Think its time for an upgrade. I'm on a pretty limited budget but I think I have come up with something decent. What do you think? AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103774 Asus M2N http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131042 EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130062 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145175 Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136075 COOLMAX CR-450B 450watt PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159031 SYBA PCI to Firewire 1394a 3+1 ports controller card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815124003 I dont need anything too crazy, just something that will keep up. I do mostly IE browsing with some occasional gaming and video uploads/downloads. Unless you guys see something thats completely off or know of something alot better for the same price I think this would do me nicely. My main concern is making sure that everything should be compatible. Last edited by Jonathan86; 01-20-2008 at 12:20 AM. |

First I would drop that psu they are garbage and pick one from this list http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195. Second Intel out performs AMD and you would benefit in performance by going intel.. Also look a the segate beraquda 7200.10 or .11 for hd, they have a 5yr warranty and are solid hard drives.. If your not doing any heavy gaming then drop to the Corsair Valueselect ram instead..

I've found the AMD platform to be very stable, and fine for occasional gaming. For the price, you won't find a better processor than the one you picked out. If you don't have a microATX case, you should go for a ATX motherboard since they have better performance and upgradeability options. I would also improve the video card to something like the X1900GT since it's a lot faster than the 7600GT and has much better video decoding.
Here are the links to the suggested changes: X1900GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102034 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127026 Last edited by Masaki 7-11; 01-20-2008 at 08:29 PM. |

Thanks for the input Masaki 7-11, I have always had AMD and I am going to go with this processor. I am keeping my chieftec case thats in use now as well as my DVD burner, floppy, etc...I will be using XP pro and probably probably through the rest of the year. I ordered the parts today so can't wait till the end of the week.
