System Boots but I receive a Windows error?

Hi everyone!

First I would like to say a big thank you to all who helped me last year in June to build my very first computer. It has worked beyond my highest expectations and for this I am thankful.

Thanks again.

Well, I am trying a new build again. After waiting patiently again for about 7 months I have managed to purchase most items well below market price or free at Fry's.

But....

This time, the system boots and I can go into BIOS, but when I attempt to install Windows XP Pro SP1, I receive an error message saying Windows is shutting down to protect my computer from damage. It gives 3 strange stop codes and a couple of other messages too.

Can anyone tell me what step to take next?

It's me, Not-So-Fast-Freddy!

Moe details would help, like what are the stop codes and "other" messages?

Just a guess...Have you checked the heatsink to see if all four corners are seated well. the white portion of the bracket should be secure to the board and black plastic pins fully expanded (on the back of the motherboard.

Ok, I will write down the exact messages I receive when attempting to install XP Pro and I will post it later tomorrow.

Heat sink and RAM are correctly installed.

Not sure what else I can do.

I have a gut feeling it is the motherboard [I bent it when I was pushing down on the CPU fan during installation of the CPU fan.]

Anyone else have any more ideas?

Thank you

One ECS Mb have high failure rates, especially if you purchased it from Fry's. My suggestion would be to return it to Fry's and get a different board.. Last time I was there they had hundreds of ECS boards returned because of failures..
