Problems with first PC build

Hello,

I have purchased and put together the following components:

- ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Motherboard
- AMD Phenom 9500 processor
- 2x Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 800Mhz RAM
- XFX Geforce 8600GT XXX graphics card
- XION II PC Case with stock 450W PSU

After connecting everything and hitting the power button the PC seems to boot up, but I get no video signal to my monitor. Both the 24 and 4 pin connectors are attached. All case LEDs are on. The DVD-RW opens and closes. The processor/heatsink gets hot. All case fans, heatsink fan and GPU fan are spinning. USB mouse lights up.

I am using a VGA to DVI connector with an older CRT monitor.

Tried different memory configurations. Used a single stick as well as both. Built the pc outside the case with the same results. I am completely stumped.

Does anybody have any insight?

are you sure that mobo supports the new AMD Phenom?? I checked the specs for that mobo and the phenom is not listed.

According to AMD's website the motherboard should be compatible:

you may have to update your bios to support that processor.

Hi,

I have tried to research this before asking here but I could not find a clear answer. How will I update my BIOS if I get no output to my monitor?

Is my computer booting up at all?

Your board does support that processor, but you need at least BIOS 1302, which is the latest.

If you've built the system outside of the case, with minimum components, as detailed in this thread, and you still get nothing, then it looks like the board doesn't have the required BIOS. This isn't a certainty - another faulty component *could* be preventing a boot (XION power supplies aren't good quality, for instance), but I'd say it's the most likely cause of your problem.

In which case, you can't update the BIOS if you don't have a compatible processor. You might have to invest in the cheapest processor your board will support natively to do the job. This Sempron chip is supported by a much older BIOS.
