No power to external devices.
I'm building a new gaming pc (it's my first build) and I'm getting no power to my monitor, keyboard, or mouse. Everything else boots up fine, my HDD is running, my MoBo is working as it should, etc. We're even pretty sure my BIOS is running, but of course we can't tell without any power to the monitor. I've tried two MoBos in the computer, and it's done exactly the same thing with both of them. Except for the external stuff, it seems to be in perfect working order.
All this leads me to believe that my PSU just isn't providing enough wattage to power everything, but I wanted another opinion before I went out and spent $300 on a new, more powerful one. Here are the specs of what I'm currently running: ASUS Crosshair Motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131593 eVGA 8800GTS 640MB Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130305 WD Raptor 150GB 10,000RPM Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136011 2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 CoolerMaster 650 Watt Power Supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171023 Eventually I will be running two of the HDDs, at the moment I'm just using the one. Anyway, those are my specs, any thoughts? |

If you have no power to your monitor, and you already tried 2, I would try a different outlet. A monitor that doesn't get power is not a computer problem.

Well I've tried two different monitors on two different outlets, one in my kitchen and one in my room, which are even on different breakers. But my keyboard and mouse aren't getting any power either, and they work fine when plugged into different computers.

Make sure it's out of the case. Are you using usb keyboard and mouse? Do you have a ps/2 keyboard you could try? |

What CPU are you using? You do have one, right?
And sorry but I gotta ask...is the monitor plugged into the wall outlet? Is the motherboard connected to the video card? Is the monitor turned on? Cricket

I am using USB mouse/keyboard, and I do have a ps/2 version of each I'll try. And I can assure you everything is plugged in and turned on.
Edit: My CPU is an AMD Athalon 64 Dual Core Last edited by Una Infinitas; 01-24-2008 at 06:03 PM. |

Have you tried the out-of-case build as shadowpr suggested?
As for connections, there is the 24 pin main plug and a 4 or 8 pin CPU plug that goes to the mobo and an 8 pin PCIe to the video card.
