Using my older Hard Drive?

This is my first time building a computer and I was wondering if I could use my old hard drive with my windows xp on it in the new computer as my main drive and OS? Any advice?

If you bought that computer at a store the hard drive will probably be linked to your computer and won't work on anything else.

Windows XP is installed on your computer and then knows what hardware you have installed. If you make more than 3 hardware changes it freaks out and wont work. If you want to zero out the HDD and then install a fresh copy of XP then you can do that. I suggest making a slipstream disk for XP so you dont have to do that much updating.
