If the computer ran fine with the old bios, then why did you updated it? The bios are only suppose to be updated if your machine really needed it, like to support the newest hardware.. Try downloading and installing the original bio, from ASUS...

Is there a way of finding the old version of bios used on the system?

I don't believe so.. Its been a while since I've done a bios update, so as long as you know what the previous version was, you should be able to get it from asus..

First to find the bios revision your board came with look at the revision on the board, to update the bios you should be able to put the bios file on a flash drive and use the utility on the board. Your motherboard manual should explain all this.

I can't remember: does the Asus disc come with a bios on it for backup? I have no idea where my disc is.

Also, are you sure you did not have to update chipset drivers before you flashed the new bios? I did.
