Welcome to PCMech.
What is your budget first of all? If you plan on gaming, you definately need an external video card rather than the onboard video. The motherboard will work with your forementioned parts. However, I would not recommend them. I say go with a asus P5K model motherboard, 2 gb corsair xms2 series ram, an a intel dual core processor of your choice that will fit your budget. Also you probably should get a new powersupply with at least 500 watts if you plan on getting a decent video card. As for the case, it's personal preference. |

What kind of games will you be playing and what kind of budget do you have? The parts you picked out will work together, but 4GB of ram is overkill for most computers, if you are using XP, going with 1GB would be sufficient, but 2GB is recommended since the ram is so cheap. Regarding the processor, you'll need to either buy the retail version of it or buy a fan/heatsink since the processor you want to get doesn't come with any fan/heatsink. If you're building a gaming computer, you'll definitely need to take a look at dedicated video card instead of using integrated. You'll also need a new power supply even if you don't get a dedicated video card, here's a good priced, good quality power supply:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371013

You're not going to be able to get xp 64 in addition to the parts for $170. As for using your previous fans, it will work only if it's for socket AM2 (may work with socket 939 or 754, but I woulnd't bet on it). 4GB and 64-bit is a poor combination for gaming when you are using low performance parts, and a small budget, if you have a 32-bit operating system, use that instead, it's faster and more reliable.

Yea, like masaki said, go 32 bit win xp.
And I think you should save a bit more money before buying parts. However, the parts that you listed amounts to about $240, so if you want you can try this combo motherboard: $87 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16813131180R ram: $34 after mail in rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034 cpu: $125 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115031 That's around $245. Those are good parts that would be okay for your budget and last you for a few years. |

OK, grammar please!
But now to your computer. If you get those parts you may have to buy another copy of windows because it may be linked to you current motherboard. You probably have a micro atx case and that will have to be upgraded to a full ATX. Your front panel connectors may or may not work with a new motherboard also. The Cooler Master Centurion 5 is a good choice. You will also need new power supply, an Xclio Goodpower 500w should work fine. If you don't already have a dedicated graphics card a Nvidia Geforce 8600 would probably play all the games you want to play. Now if I were you I'd save my money and get some better parts in the long run. All the parts I listed are available at newegg.com, just search for them.

What are the specs of your current computer? If it has a PCI Express x16 slot you could put a pretty nice card in it and be able to play a lot of games. Also you should only buy RAM if you need it, like if your computer is running out. If you already have 2gb thats more than enough.

My advice still stands. Save up some money and then get the parts. For $150, that's pretty a pretty tight budget for motherboard, processor, and ram.

well i dont think i'll need the processor or motherboard i mean i wana increase performance mostly gfx wise and gameplay wise so i mean what 1 more 1gb stik of ram and a new gfx card and a better case(mines shot) so i mena i can probably get a new cpu or motehrboard wich would be better?
cuz ill reuse the processor /cpu if i can or the mother board but the motehrboard max can only have 2gb of ram and yea... i'd like 4+ Last edited by bringr32; 01-28-2008 at 10:05 PM. |

If all you want to do is have better gaming performance, all you need to do is upgrade the video card and power supply, you should have enough ram (1GB is the most efficient amount for windows xp), and most processors would work fine with the new games. Don't bother getting a new case or anything else unless you want to do a complete overhaul later on that will cost at least $200.
Here are the recommendations: PSU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171028 Video Card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814161048R These two parts will make your gaming experience a lot better than before. You should be able to see about a tenfold increase in gaming performance. Openbox means that the only the video card will ship, and you'll need to download the manual and/or the drivers yourself from the internet. |

Have you ever had a problem with a GFX? All you need for efficient gaming is a graphics card and a PSU. Also next time you use this forum, please use some grammer, capitals and end punctuation would be greatly appreciated.
