That is such a horrible deal. You can do a lot better by customizing your own parts.

Is buying seperate parts and assembling the computer yourself an option? Otherwise, I guess if you're not doing any major gaming, a pre-assembled desktop from futureshop/bestbuy/dell is your best bet if you don't want the hassle of building the computer yourself. You also get warranty so that's a plus. It's just that if you assemble a computer yourself, you have more freedom and control over the parts of your computer. You can also save money.

If you were to put together a computer with the same parts listed by futureshop, you would save $100+

$800 for a computer and a 20" LCD monitor? It sounds like a good deal but what kind of parts are used in the computer itself? The specs look okay but your don't know about the quality of the parts. ACER computers are "okay"...nothing great but nothing awful about them...will it play the games you want it to play? Probably, after you remove a lot of the junk they install on it with something like this.

And with pre-built computers you have to spec them out as good as you can from the start because upgrading them isn't the easiest thing to do.

For what you need it may fit the bill. Too bad you can't build your own.

My question is are they willing to swap out the video card, or are you planning on buying one and changing it yourself. If you are just adding the card that will bring the computer up close to $900. I would personally tend to look at someone like Dell which at leas has some ability to upgrade components during the build process.

You might also spec out a system with someone like AVA DIRECT

http://www.avadirect.com/

Their systems are a bit more expensive, but they allow you to chose just about everythiing in the case so you know what your are getting. I priced them out and their build fee seems reasonable considering they also provide a warranty and support. They are not going to be as economical as building it yourself but if building is not an option it might be an alternative.
