Need some criticism here.

No case, yet.

Monitor: Debating on going with the 22" 2ms version of the Samsung. Not sure yet.
Video Card: Debating on going SLi or to wait for the new nVidia's?
PSU: No clue, it had a good rating lol. I think it's SLi rated?
RAM: 8GB is probably overkill, but I may do it. Or should I just go with 'faster' RAM?
CPU: When are they planning on releasing the Quad 45nm chips?

What would you guys change?

What is your budget?

Looks like a good build.

Sli isn't usually recommended. For the p[rice you don't usually get that much of an improvement, and one newer card could outperform the older sli.

PSU is good, but a bit overkill. Nice price for that though.

I would stick with 4gb of ram now. Nothing that the average user uses will take advantage of the 4gb, let alone 8gb.

Not sure about the 45nm quads.

What OS are you going to use? A 32 bit OS will only see 3.5gb of ram max.

Suggestions:

Most would recommend going with Lite-on for your optical it seems to have the best track record. Have not heard much good or bad regarding Asus optical.

Good choice of HD

22” screens is at a nice pricing right now. It is a good size if you are moving up from a 19” because it is the same height. If you get smaller widescreens they feel more like a 17” because of the height. If you can afford 24” it is a nice size, you just pay quite a bit for those last 2 inches.

Very nice video card. I personally think it is a bit over priced. You pay an extra $100 for a very small performance gain over the 8800 GT, but it is better.

Looks like a good PSU, perhaps a bit big for your current set up, but lots of head room. You could probably get by with 550 watts for what you have listed. You mention SLI but you have not chosen an SLI board so not sure what you are planning. If you change MB to an SLI board then based your PSU choice off this list. A PSU has to be SLI ready, but it also has to match the size requirements of the cards you intend to run in SLI.

http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html

XP and Vista 32 will only recognize 2.5 to 3.2 GB of ram. So if you want to see 4 GB or more of ram you will need to run Vista 64. Vista 64 has to convert 32 bit programs to 64 bit so it actually runs a little slower than Vista 32 in most games, since most games are 32 bit. So, you may end up losing any advantage extra ram is providing. But it is your choice. Ram is cheap right now so a lot of people go with 4 GB and Vista 32 which will get your system up to around 3 GB which is plenty for most applications.

As for ram speed you will not really notice a difference unless you are doing a major OC on the system. Your 1333 FSB processor is actually a match for 667 speed ram. They usually recommend getting ram one step higher so generally most people use 800 with a 1333 FSB processor. The processor will not utilize faster ram unless you speed it up.

Don’t really know that mobo but have heard the X38 is a little faster than the P35 so it should be good. If it is much more expensive you would probably be just as well going for the P5K board.

I have heard nothing but praise for that processor so it is a good choice. I have not heard when they are releasing the new quads but I would expect it will be as soon as they can get it into production. Have not heard of any problems with development.

Budget isn't a problem really.
I think I'm going to hold out until the geforce9 cards come out as well as the 45nm quad cores.

I'm using vista ultimate 64 btw.

Thanks for the info Kat.
I didn't think that was an SLi board. Haha

SLi only shines on bigger monitors is that correct? 24" With the 24" Sammy will I notice anything?
I generally go with Lite-On but Asus makes good products so why not give it a go I said.

Yes, probably the best reason for SLI is running large monitors. But I dont think 24" falls into the large catagory. I think they are talking about the 28" and 32" monitors that are beginning to show up. What I have seen recommend for 22" and 24" is a single card with over 500 mb of on-board ram. I dont think the lower end cards with 256 mb of ram can handle the resolution of that size monitor without turning down settings. On the other hand, I use an older 8800 GTS (320) with a 22" widescreen and have not so far needed to turn down anything, but I have not yet played Crysis.

Cool, I think I'll go with the 22" and wait for the new quad cores and nvidia card.

The 45nm Penryn quad is already out and has been for some time, in the form of the QX9650.

That's the Extreme version though. I'll wait for the Q9450 or Q9550 lol. Still set for a Q1 released date is what I've read.
