Testing a new PC?

I'm not sure where this question should belong, so feel free to move it. I was wondering if anyone on here does any kind of performance/speed testing benchmarks after building a PC? Obviously this is important for over clocking, but I'm just talking about the average user. Is it even necessary?

I don't. After I build a computer and install the OS, drivers and assorted programs and utilities I just play with it for awhile to be sure it doesn't do anything unusual and then deliver it to the new owner.

Not anymore. Burning in a new computer was important way back in the 286, 386 and 486 Baby AT form factor days, but component quality and reliability have come a long way since then. If the computer boots and runs it's pretty safe to say it'll run fine for years to come.
