Hi. I'm a new member here and I'm having a problem with my new computer. It's my first build so please help. I don't know much about it.
I recently put together my computer. To test if it worked, I turned it on and I saw a display on my monitor, the motherboard splash screen I believe. I then turned the system off and back on to see if it worked again, and it did. I saw the splash screen again. So I turned it off and plugged in my USB keyboard because I wanted to go into the BIOS to see if everything was detected. When I turned it on and got the splash screen, I pressed Delete, which the manual said would take me into the BIOS. It did not work. So i turned it off again and replaced the USB keyboard with a PS/2 keyboard to see if that would work. This time when I powered my system, My monitor did not detect a signal. I can also hear a fan or two spinning really fast. They usually quiet/slow down after 3 seconds, but now it's on full speed. It's like this all the time now. I don't know what went wrong. I'm not exactly sure on my parts, but I'll list the basics. PSU: hec Zephyr 750W MOBO: ASUS 750i sli. CPU: Intel E8400. RAM: A-DATA 3GB DDR2 800 (2 x 1GB) (2 x 512MB) Video Card: BFG 8800GTS 512MB PCI-E 2.0 All these parts can be found on Newegg. I cannot figure out why I can't see anything after I turned it on for the 5th time. I have not installed an OS yet. I also don't know which fans are running full power. Either my CPU fan or my Video Card fan. Not sure which. Please help! |

Check the video card for any brown spots or bulging capcitors. It sounds like it is a video card issue. If you have a spare pci card pop it in there. For future reference turning the system off and on like that is not good for the system. You could also try poping the cmos battery (watch bat on the mobo) and leaving it out for about 30 seconds. Put it back in and try booting again.

Hmm. I though it might be a video card problem too. When I turn on the computer, the video card fan runs at full speed. The CPU fan runs, but as normally as it should. I've tried removing the motherboard battery and reseting the CMOS but that didn't work. I don't have a spare video card on me right now, but I have a friend who does. I'll reply after I try out his.

Is your motherboard in or out of the case right now? You should be troubleshooting with the motherboard out of the case.

My motherboard is in the case right now. If my friend's video card doesn't work, I'll try it outside of the case. Thanks for the tip.
