Need help with newly built computer!!!!

I'm new to this site and I am looking for some help on a problem I am having with a newly built computer. Purchased everything from newegg!

This is my specs:

ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

GIGABYTE GV-RX24T256H Radeon HD 2400XT 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO4400DOBOX

OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8002GK

COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKA1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case W/Real Power Pro 550W Power Supply

It's seem to be a good computer on paper. But as soon as I got everything installed including windows xp and a few programs my computer freeezes, sometimes freezing and rebooting itself. I checked everything to make sure connections were good and everything was booting up and working properly (all the fans, hard drive processor and it's fan..motherboard, etc.)Anyways, I wiped out the hard drive and tried just having windows xp on it with nothing else and the same problem occurs. So I checked my video card by replacing it with another and the same problem occured. I took out one of my 1gb memory chips and still had the same problem. What do you guys think the problem is? I am lost at this point besides someone telling me to get more memory and switch it with what I have and see if that's whats causing this issue. Could it be the motherboard, processor, power supply....PLEASE HELP!!!!

You could test your memory with memtest. http://www.memtest.org/

Also could test your hard drive: http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?swid=1

Other then that, you could try a new power supply.

You should also check your temperatures in the bios. Shut downs could indicate the CPU is heating up after awile and shutting down to protect itself. The re-starts dont sound right though but never hurts to check. Just start up the computer and see if the temp keeps rising. If the CPU is getting hot you might just need to re-seat the heatsink.

If you ram and HDs check out and its not getting hot, the next eaiset thing to check would be swap out the PSU as shadow suggested.

I did the mem test and it went through the whole process and I didn't see any errors occur. I wasn't sure what to do with the western digital program. I installed it and checked the specs on my hard drive. Other than that all it has was help installing a new or current drive and one other option. So if it's not those two things, you think the power supply that was included in the case may be bad? Over the weekend the computer would be on and runnning fine but as soon as I do more than one task, it would shut off. Even if I just turned it on and checked the internet. It's getting really really fustrating!!! Please help if you can think of anything else. Anyone think it could be the processor or does it sound like a power supply problem? I mean I tested the video card, mem, the hard drive seems to be ok but is there another way to test the hard drive? I purchased this entire unit about a 3 weeks ago so I need to figure out what to do with this computer. I only have about a week/week and half to send stuff back to get replaced. Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!

Like Katreat said, you really nned to check your CPU temp. You can check the tempurature in BIOS like Katreat said, or you can use Asus PC Probe which will let you monitor the temps on your Windows desktop. (PC probe is on the Asus cd)

If that's not it, I would suspect the power supply next.

I believe I have pc probe on my computer which did come on my asus cd. So I am looking to see if the temp of the cpu keeps rising while I am using it? If it does keep rising what should I do next? By chance do you know if that power supply has a switch on it to change the voltage? Didn't know if that had something to do with it?!!! Just throwing ideas out there.

You want to see what the temperature goes up to. And report what the temp says when it shuts down. If it's a high temp, then that is your problem. If not, then it could just be a bad power supply.

If the temp is a problem, then you will need to check to see that the heat sink and fan on the CPU are seated properly. That is the most common cause.

Never heard of this brand of power supply before. I'd replace it with something from the good list in this thread.

Or visit this web site for more power supply information.

If it's the power supply do I complain to newegg then? Are they gonna want the whole case back? I hope not.
The pc froze a little while ago and the temp was 29 degrees celcius.

Even with swapping out the power supply for a new one..an antec earthwatts 500...the pc still freezes and stops or reboots....anything else that could be causing this problem????? HELP!!!!
The only components left are the cpu, the hard drive or the motherboard.

Did you run the diagnostics on the hard drive?

What happens if you just look around the bios with just the bare minimum installed? Does it freeze, or reboot?

Download Prime95 and try a torture test. See if it passes. If you don't know how there are tons of articles on the web how. Also run the hard drive diagnostics, your temps are good too, actually they are low which is a good thing.
