Bought a firewire card to go into my new build to find its not what I need.

The title pretty much says it all. I wasnt paying attention when I bought it so now I'm not sure what to do.

My case has both a USB and Firewire port on the front panel. The problem is that my motherboard only has a connection for the USB.

I purchased a firewire card thinking that since it has an internal port I could just connect it to the cable that runs to the firewire port on the front. Well I was wrong. The internal port on the card has the wrong kind of connection.

See pics:

Is there some kind of adapter I can buy to make this work or do I need a new card?

The connector you're holding looks like a USB connector, and the one on the card is Firewire.

Post your case make / model and maybe someone has one and can help you out better...

The connector does look like a USB connector, however it is labeled as 1394.

My case is a chieftec dragon mid tower. I purchased it back in '04. It is very similar to this one.

That is a firewire connector. It's a 6pin female connector which you probably already knew. I don't know of any adapters but this is something like what you need.

It has the 9 pin header for case ports.

Lespaul20, thank you. That is exactly what I need. I cant believe newegg doesnt have more of these. I just assumed that an internal port would be a 9-pin male connector. My mistake. Thank you both for your assistance. This place is great.
