Cool Help! having trouble booting.

OK, the problem i'm having is this: when i turn on the PC everything in it works, PSU, HDD, DVD drive, and all the fans turn on, but nothing shows up on my screen, it just stays in power save mode. and theres no beep at all.

specs:

Mobo: EVGA A1 680i
CPU: INTEL C2D E8400 3Ghz 775
Video Card: EVGA 8800 GTS 320mb
Mem: CORSAIR Dominator 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
Heatsink: ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT 110mm

I took it apart and put it back together very carefully to make sure i did not miss a step but same thing occurs. After a couple of tries of turning it off and on it beeped once and brought me into cmos but when i exit to reboot it same thing happens, screen in power save mode but everything in pc is running.

HELP!

OK, 2 things you need to do first.

1.) tell us what power supply you are using.
2.) Have you read this?

Did you read the other thread?

Do you have a power connector to the video card?

Is it out of the case?

If you can't get it to post, then it needs to be out of the case.

make sure power supply connected to your video card, make sure the connection via cable between monitor and computer is secure, try to switch monitor between digital and analog see if that helps.

The reason you take the motherboard out of the case is you want to eliminate the possibility of the motherboard shorting out to the case. A novice mistake is to either install too many standoffs or none at all...if there is too many standoffs and one of them makes contact with the wires sticking out of the underside of the motherboard, the motherboard will short out and it won't boot up. Same thing with using no standoffs, the motherboard will short out to the case.

Are you sure you have all necessary power connections plugged into the motherboard? The 24 pin main power connector and the square 4 pin 12v power connector near the CPU?

If the video card needs additional power, do you have the necessary power connection plugged in from the power supply?

the power is hooked up, both 24pin and 8pin. i tested the video card on another PC and it works, so it cant be that.

Ok. If you already tested the video card, and know that works, you need to substitute and test the other parts.

Would probably test ram first, then power supply.

If those test good, or you can't get the computer to post with known working ram, and power supply, then you might have a bad motherboard, or cpu.

You did try a different monitor, right?

Persoanlly I am not a fan of SLI, but the 780i board would be a better match for the E8400 cpu. I have read the bios upgrades for the 680i boards are not the best and I think the 780i supports the new 45mm processors out of the box.

You might also check into the new 790i, not evevn sure if it is out yet, but you could take a look. It is suppose to be a big improvement on both the 680i and 780i chipsets.

I am not sure if the new 790i chip is going to be offerend on DDR2 MB though......
