Help With New Build

Good Day, I have always wanted to build a pc of my own, and have finally decided to go ahead and do so. I would like you guys to tell me if these aprts are compatible and if it is a good build to run the specific programs i desire. I will be running autocad and adobe photoshop and will be playing alot of games. this would mean that i need a good graphics card and alot of storage space. I have an external hard drive [500g] and will be using for thisstorage until i add another hard drive. I will be running windows xp. could you peruse my choices and give me your advice. all parts will be bought on newegg.

Hi,

Welcome to PCMech!

Everything looks good, other than the seagate harddrive. Get the 7200.11 500GB 32 mb cache.

Get a lite-on burner instead.

What powersupply will you be getting?

Never heard of your case before. Any pictures?

Looks good.

What about a power supply?

Most will recommend that you get a lite-on dvd burner, but i've had good experiences with asus as well. Can't go wrong with either. Just check to see if the retail comes with software. A retail Lite-on comes with nero.

Unless you need all the features of the deluxe, you could save money and get the basic Asus P5K mother board.

build looks good. If you want a larger HD, and can afford it, then i agree you should go for the newer 7200.11. But I think the smallest one is 500 GB and although they have a tiny bit faster seek time I doubt you would even notice if you dont feel like going that large.

For PSU this is a nice unit which is on special right now. Almost want to buy one for my next build but by then they will have something better.

That Linkworld case you have listed shows to have a 500w PSU included, both for $39.99.
A good quality 500w PSU will cost at least double the $40. So, basicly your getting a $39.99 case with a PSU that's worth nothing.

That Corsair PSU is one you should think about buying. Otherwise nothing else on your list needs changed. The ones that come with cases are good for fireworks but not real good for powering your PC.

So the most imperative thing I should change for this build is the power supply and the dvd burner to a lite-on. Would it be a problem if i sticked with the harddrive i had stated above until a later date. Also, someone was telling me that if i am going to go larger with my harddrive it would be best to have two drives instead of one. One to run the operating systems and programs and the other for the storage of my files. Is this commonly accepted, and if so why.

If you sticked to the harddrive that you selected, it's ok. But if you want the bang for the buck, the 7200.11 500 gb seagate is the way to go. Especially if you are doing a lot of photo editing which will take up a lot of space. But I see you also have a external drive. So it's all personal preferance now.

As for the OS on one HDD and the other files on another, I don't think it's too common. It may make things run a little faster and smoother. As well, in case you need to format the drive, your files won't be lost. What you could do is get a larger HDD (500 gb) and partition into two drives, one with the OS and one for files.
