USB/PS2 Peripheral Problems
Greetings, everyone!
This is my first post here so I'll try not to sound too stupid. I built my computer and everything was going alright. Then all of a sudden my wireless/keyboard mouse combo decided to stop working. When I decided to try to restart the computer, I can access the BIOS using the keyboard, but about 5-10 second after Windows startup, the mouse and keyboard refuse to work. This is true for only the PS2 port. Currently the PS2 port provides power for the keyboard/mouse transmitter, but the keyboard/mouse only works sporadically. When I try to plug in a USB jump drive while the computer is on, there's a brief flash of power, but then nothing. This is true for all of my USB ports. I tried another wireless keyboard/mouse combo that I knew worked on another computer and that didn't help either. I would appreciate any and all troubleshooting ideas. Here is a listing of my parts: SAPPHIRE 100195L Radeon X1650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102084 GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128080 Intel Pentium 4 631 Cedar Mill 3.0GHz LGA 775 Single-Core Processor Model BX80552631 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116004 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098 APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 ATX 500W Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148027 COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 WESTERN DIGITAL hard drive (not sure of the specs b/c I inherited, but it seems to work fine) Thank you! sounds like the power supply is not suppling enough power to the usb/ps2 ports.
could be power supply or mother board problem. |

Apevia power supplies aren't known to be good quality.
Might want to llok at getting that changed. Here is a list of good brands: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 In the mean time, I would get a wired keyboard and mouse.
