Hello everyone,
well to try and not make this post a repetative one, I figured i would explain things better in the hope to get a better response. I'm scared pretty much, that the components i have selected won't work or aren't compatible with each other...so in the hope of getting it right i regestered here. So here's what i've chosen to build: ![]() If the picrure doesn't work Case: Antec 900 tower gaming case with side window. Processor: Intel core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz, 1333mhz FSB, 6mb cache L2, Wolfdale 45nm. HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250gb sata II 7200rpm 32 mb cache. Motherboard: EVGA 132ck-NF78-A1 nForce 780i SLI. Power Supply: Silver Stone 750w Power supply, SLI capable. Video Card: XFX GeForce 7200 GS 128mb PCI-E. Ram: OCZ DDR2 PC6400 Reaper HPC editoion, 2GB(1GBx2) 4-4-4-15, EPP ready. Monitor: LG 22" Widescreen, 1680X1050, 5ms response, 300nits, 5000:1 Contrast. Operating System: Windows-Vista Home Basic,32-bit OEM. Optical Drive: Samsung Internal combo Drive. Hopefully that makes it easier. I have decided though i will buy just a cheap graphics card to get it running and when the new 9 series card come i will save and buy 1 of them, my worry is that the cheap card won't work in vista. the first things i will buy will just be for the tower i will get the monitor and other stuff later when i have saved enough. Would there be any advantage in running vista home premium? So will all this be worthwhile and be compatible? thanks heaps for any replys

First off, where are you getting these parts from? They are so overpriced...
Check out newegg or ncix for parts. I didn't know seagate made 250 gb harddrives with 32 mb cache, I thought the minimum starting size was 500 gb. Hmm... anyways the 500 gb 7200.11 32 mb cache is around the same price range. So go for that. The 780i is a good board, you should also check out the asus p5k models unless you really are going to go SLI with the 780i. Silvstone is a good brand for power supply, but for your rig 750 W may be overkill unless you go SLI. Check out the corsair 620 W as well... The 7200 should be compatitble if you download the right drives. The 9600 cards are already released. The 9800 cards will be released mid march as well. Also check out corsair xms2 ddr-800 2 gb ram. Good brand. Stay away from LG monitors. Samsung is the way to go (check out 226BW 22") Go with a liteon drive. |

ok thanks for the reply,
The parts are over priced becuase I live in Australia, they are the cheapest i found on the net for Aus. The reason for the powersupply and Motherboard is for good future upgradabilty, I will like to eventually get SLI when i can afford it. Shame about the monitor it had good specs with a great price compared to others, I thought LG was a good brand ok thanks i'll try putting together another computer with your recomendations. EDIT: I just don't think i can pay for a samsung monitor they are nearly double!! the LG comes with a warranty for 5 yrs wich i thought was good. Last edited by fuse99; 02-22-2008 at 07:20 PM. |

Be sure to buy the majority of the parts at once. If you are working on the build for a few months, it makes much more sense to wait considering how fast technology changes.
Go for 1.9V CAS 5 RAM for an Intel setup. They run more stable. Corsair XMS is a great brand to go with. http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/22509/ We don't recommend SLI, especially as an upgrade option. It simply doesn't make economic sense. By the time you're ready for a second card (saving up or in need of power), there will be new graphics cards on the market that outperform the previous generation in SLI. All of the previous versions of SLI cards has proven this outcome. Given that, I'd check out the Asus P5K boards. No reason to spend the money on SLI. The rest of your list looks fine to me. I think LG monitors are fine.

Ok thanks i'll look into the motherboard options, I like the idea of the EVGA motherboard becuase its surposed to be very easy to set up, and good upgrade features. I do see your point though with the SLI.
I know what you mean by technology changing, also the price changes dramtically 1 month ago this build would have cost $200 more. thanks for your reply. |
