Non Gaming Rig for in laws
My father in law finally has to upgrade his system because none of the tax programs support Windows 98 any more.
This system is to be used for online banking, general surfing, some word processing, and playing music. Printer, speakers, keyboard, and mouse are to be reused from old system. I am using the backbone of another poster's rig, but changed a few things to personal preference. I have never used AMD before, so I would especially like comments on compatibilty there. General budget is to keep it under 1k, less if possible. Thanks for reading and commenting.Case: Antech Sonata III w/500W PS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129024 MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-MA69VM-S2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128043 Processor: AMD Athlon X2 5000+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103211 Ram: (x2) CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100206L Radeon HD 2600PRO 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Supported Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102103 HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250310AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148261 DVD Drive: Lite on Blcack 20X DVD w Lightscribe Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106245 FDD: Sony Black FDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106245 OS: XP SP2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116056 Productivity: MS Works 8.5 OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102081 Monitor: Samsung 226 BW 22" Monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001096 Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. One thing, you don't need that video card for doing the things you mentioned. You could even get a motherboard with video integrated into it to save you money.

Looks like you already have a motherboard with integrated graphics (690 chipset) in the list already, so you could take out the video card from your list, since it will come in handy only if it is for gaming. Other than that, it looks like a pretty solid build, and I can't see any incompatibilities.
