Everything Look Ok?

Case - Still deciding on a case
Power Supply - PC Power & Cooling 750W Silencer (Got for free from a friend)
Processor - Core 2 Q6600 - OEM (Planning to overclock to about 3.0 - 3.3 ghz)
Processor Heatsink - Zalman CNPS9700
Motherboard - ABIT IP35 Pro or ASUS Maximus Formula
RAM - G.SKILL 4GB (2x2) DDR2 1000
Video Card - EVGA 8800GTS (G92) or EVGA 8800GT
Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar GP 1 TB - OEM
Optical Drive - Samsung SH-S203B
SATA Cable (for the processor, hard drive, etc) - Generic 18" 2-Head SATA Cable

Does everything look alright, and am I missing any cables, components, etc? I'm hoping that this build will last about 5 years, with maybe a processor upgrade a few years down the line.

Not bad.

I would make a few changes personally. If you're going to overclock to about 3.2, or 3.3, then you most likely don't need ddr2-1000 ram. You would probably be good with ddr2-800.

Is there a reason you chose the Maximus Formula? If not, then the P5K-E would be serve you well.

The 8800gt is a better bang for the buck, but the 8800gts looks good.

I wouldn't get that optical drive though. I would get a Lite-On sata dvd burner retail.

You shouldn't need extra sata cables. The mb should come with 2.

Is the P5K-E better than the ABIT IP35 Pro? I've heard lots of positives about both, and there's only a $5 difference between the two. And thanks for the burner recommendation, I'll look into it.

I've heard good about both too. From what I've read, Asus is usually a higher quality brand. Both boards will allow you to overclock the Q6600 with no problem. I have a P5K, and had my E6750 at 3.8 for a while.

The Asus should have better integrated sound (Soundmax) which support EAX for games, and generally sounds a decent amount better than the really common Realtek (No EAX support).

By the way, can someone explain to me or give me a link to a tutorial that shows me how to update drivers for the video card, motherboard, etc? I've never done that before.

Not sure about a link, but the easiest way to do that is go to the manufactures website, download te drivers, and then run the file. It will walk you through the rest from there.

For that video card go here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

And for the mother board drivers: (Assuming Asus) http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

I usually install all my drivers by downloading the newest ones, and never use the cd's that come with anything. Maybe that's just me though.

Just remembered to ask this, but what tools should I have handy for building a comp? I know an anti-static wristband and screwdrivers are a good idea, but anything else?

Might want some cable ties around.

Other than that, not much.
