First build - any red flags?

Hi all,
I would greatly appreciate if you could raise any red flags with the following parts list. This is my first build so I’ve tried to choose a straight forward set of parts from proven companies. Do you see any compatibility issues or do you think any parts are over-kill (ie. 620w PSUS) or limiting compared to the rest? Also do you have suggestions for cheaper parts of comparable quality.

I don’t plan to OC initially, but if I do, I selected the Noctua/Scthe combo shown below. My concern is will this fit in the Antec P182.

This machine will be used for photo editing, multi media, gaming and general computer use in my home.

- Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX Triple
- ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 1333FSB 2PCI-E16
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core
- Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4GB DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800
- ASUS GeForce 8800GT 700MHZ 512MB 256BIT 2GHZ DDR3 PCI-E
- Samsung SH-S203B Black Sata DVD+RW
- Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 3.5IN Hard Drive Oem
- Antec P182 Atx Black Mid Tower Case 4X5.25 1X3.5 6X3.5INT
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 32BIT Dvd Oem
- Noctua NH-U12P LGA775 AM2 Heatsink Heatpipe Cooler W/ NF-S12P 120MM Fan
- Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120MM Cooling Fan 1600RPM 28.0DBA 63.7CFM FDB

A few things.

Get a Lite-On dvd burner instead. Sata and retail.

We usually recommend either Seagate or Western Digital Drives. Stay away from Hitachi. Look at the Seagate 7200.11 500gb sata drive.

Might want to look at EVGA instead of Asus for the video card too.

Rest looks good.

Thanks shadow,
I'll look for the Lite-on and the segate. Do Hitachi have a bad rap. I saw at leats one good review... but you never know about the biases.
Also is the P182 big enough for the large heat sink?

Hitachi had a bad run a while back, and cause of that many people still don't trust their quality. Seagates seem to be doing good, and if they fail, they have a 5 year warrenty.

I'm not sure about the case and heatsink though. Your best bet is to try and get either the dimensions, or to look at reviews for the case and see if anyone mentions a big heatsink.

List looks good. I also agree with shadows recommendations, but alot of that is brand preferance. The items you picked are not bad, it is just that the items shadow suggested have a better reputation. As for the case I have no idea. About the only way to find that out is read the product reviews on newegg or some other site and hope someone has tried it.

Also, if you are not for sure going to OC, using an after market cooler will void the warranty on your CPU, so you might think about adding it down the road when you make up your mind. You can also do a mild OC with the stock cooler, the newer chips dont run nearly as hot as the old ones which allows for OC with the stock heatsink.

Since you're going with 4GB, you might want to consider Vista 64bit. Also, the newer 9800 series video cards are just around the corner, which might bring down the cost of your video card if you can wait it out. Any reason for the extra fan?

Thanks Alex,
Good point about 64bit. I choose 4gb since it didn't seem much more than 2mb and I was thinking vista standard could use up to 3mb. My worry is that my old applications will not run on a 64bit OS.

Definately check out if your old applications can run on a 64 bit Operating system. Also check out if they will work with vista. You might have to upgrade some of them.

It'll take time if you have a lot of appplications that you need, but it's better to do your homework now instead of being fustrated later.
