First Build...minor problem, please help!

Hello. I recently came upon this website and decided to build a PC (recently meaning around 5 months ago). During that time I saved all my money and sold my laptop, which was not even powerful enough to play HL2 episode 2.

So, 5 long months later, i decide to build a computer. I bought all the parts on Newegg. I built it and yesterday, when it was done, i shelled out my last bit of money for windows vista. I came home, plugged my Pc into a monitor and...no picture.

This is a big problem. ALL the hardware is working (you can hear the hdd power up, dvd drive opens / closes, cpu fan works and control works, case fan works) but I tried two different monitor cables (s video in graphics card, vga in mobo io panel) and neither provided an image. Since it is tax time, and I spent all my money on this, I cant afford to have geek squad or firedog fix it, and i would prefer fixing it myself anyway. Here is a list of the parts:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisabane 2.6ghz Black Edition
ASUS M2A-VM HDMI out Motherboard
Samsung SATA 500GB HDD
Rosewill CPU Fan / Heatsink
AMD Radeon 1250+ Graphics Card (came with mobo)
Philips DVD Burner
OCZ 2 x 2GB Ram Platinum Edition
Linkworld Case w/ 500 watt power supply
and an MSI turbo g wireless card

So, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here. I followed the PC mech instructions step by step as close as I could, and there seem to be no hardware problems. Im really confused, so if anyone can help me, please explain!

Thanks!

I know this is a dumb question but.... you did install vista right? Did you get it to boot into the bio before that?

Follow that sticky. That will be the first step.

Just assemble the core components outside the case. If it still doesn't give you a post, then one of those components is bad.

EDIT: It looks like you have onbaord video. Try using just that while doing the out of case build. Plug the monitor cable into that first, and also try selecting input on the monior. Might need to changed from digital to analog, or the other way around.

You're most likely zipping right by the message that tells you how to get into your bios. Try powering up and holding the F8 or Delete keys and see what happens.

you mean by using a vga cable from the io panel to the monitor w/o the radeon card that came with the mobo?

ill try that.

ok ill take everything out of the case, connect the mobo, processor, 1 RAM stick, and power supply, then ill hook it up to the monitor...shouldnt be too hard.

Seriously this is pissing me off.

I just checked to make sure everything is plugged in all the way etc.

Ok, this is what happens:

i connect the s-video cable from the graphics card to the tv

i turn on the power supply

the led on the power button of the case goes on, but nothing else other than the mobo's power led

i press the case power button

th power button led goes off,the hdd goes on, the dvd drive goes on, the cpu fan goes on, the case fan goes on, pretty much all the hardware works, but still the tv does nothing. it doesnt even get a signal, it just stays black

i really dont get why this would happen, everything is working it seems. but since the screen doesnt do anything, i cant install windows or even go into bios or anything.

all the replys seem to be about what to do if the computer actually doesnt work, it works, but i receive no image on the monitor

EDIT: The graphics card's s-video slot came with an s-video to yBpR or whatever, but i dont have those cords so i just used a normal s-video cord which it also says will work.

If you don't have an image on the monitor, then you don't know if it works.

And the steps that are described in that sticky is to ensure that everything works. It's a proven method.

Are you using an actual monitor, or a tv?

Have you tried to plug a computer into the tv before with success?

Have you tried to just use the onboard video yet, and not even plug in the video card?

It is a TV.

Yes, two different laptops using both VGA and S-Video, both successful

Yes, I used the VGA-out on the I/O Panel, but with the video card plugged in... I will go plug in the vga w/o the video card in, but I doubt it will work.
