barebones problem
hi.
my pc packed up so i decided to buy a barebones system (had a processor and memory) and put my old hard drive and dvd drive in myself. I've put the HD in and its picked up in the bios, but the DVD drive doesn't seem to be picked up at all. When I turn the system on, it goes past the POST then says "disk boot failure please insert disk" So is this the HD having problems or the dvd drive? is it me whos wired it incorrectly? I don't see why I'd need the dvd drive just to boot. The harddrive has XP installed on it. thanks a lot. |

If you change the MB you will need to do a new install or a repair install of windows. Once you change the MB it is a new system as far as windows is concerned.
Can you get into the bios? You will need to enter the bios and set your burner as first boot. Once that is done you can insert the windows disk and either do a repair or clean install. I think if you search windows repair instal there is a post on this forum with instructions. Kat

Please list the full specifications of your new system.
Are you using your original motherboard? the same make and model motherboard? or a new one entirely?
