Is it possible?

Is it possible to build a pc with a budget of about £150 ($300) what sort of specs would it have?

Many Thanks

Would that budget exclude monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and operating system?

It might be possible.

A motherboard with onboard video.
Either 1gb or 2gb of ram, since prices are low.

Preference for amd or intel?

Ram: Corsair DDR2-800 2x1gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145590 $28 after rebate
MB: Gigabyte Micro ATX with onboard video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128078 $67
Processor: E4500: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115031 $125
PSU: Sparkle 350w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103030 $53

I'm not familiar with amd that much, but I'm sure someone will come around shortly that can get you a base for an amd system.

That system that I listed will allow you to make upgrades. If you added a videocard, you might want to also upgrade that power supply too though.

Just realized I didn't include a dvd drive. That would add to the cost abit.

Or a hard drive. Sorry about that. Been a little out of it the past few days.

I'm looking at ebuyer now to see what I can do.

Ok. This is what I came up with. It can be adjusted slightly.

Case: Antec Sonata III with PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128045 $74
MB: Gigabyte with onboard video: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140947 $33
CPU: Intel E2160: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127248 $45
Ram: Crucial 2x1gb ddr2-667: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/106133 $27
HD: Seagate 80gb Sata: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129414 $25
DVD Burner: Lite-on Sata, Retail: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141995 $24

Total of: 228 (prices rounded up, and doesn't include shipping)

Maybe someone else can help lower it.

If you want to lower it, you could get ide drives instead of sata, and instead of a dvd burner, get a regular dvd player.

I would like to clear something up. The proccessor is a 1.8ghz dual core.
When I look at the system specs of something and it says for example:
an intel proccessor 2.4ghz
As that is a dual core does it have that ability?

Many Thanks

Yes. Those ratings are based on older Pentium architectures. The Core 2 Duo CPUs will have plenty of performance, even if the Ghz rating is lower. The new chips do not need such high raw speeds to achieve better performance due to efficiency.

Computers built on the AMD platform are quite stable and offer good value on a low budget, unfortunately due to the vat, the parts are quite a bit more expensive, so an Intel build is somewhat out of the question. I've put together a build list that is under £200 (including shipping and vat) and has good performance now (not all that great for gaming) and has room for upgradability later on to increase performance (a video card will drastically improve gaming performance). Here is the build list:

Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU *SPECIAL OFFER* £42.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135101

Western Digital WD1600AAJS 160GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 8MB Cache - OEM £30.93
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128708

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty £32.00
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/98710

MSI K9N6SGM-V GeForce 6100 Socket AM2 onboard VGA and 8-channel audio mATX Motherboard £28.21
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126138

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Socket AM2 4200+ (2.2GHz) Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Cache Retail Boxed Processor £42.99
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141242

LiteOn DH-16D2P 16x48 DVD-Rom Black Bare Drive - OEM £10.47
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129551

Total: £197.92
