Boom Building Gaming PC!!! NEED HELP!!!

Hi Everyone,

my name is Jeff,

I was just wondering if all you could help me with the building of my own computer, and i'm sorry, I'm trying to build a gaming computer thats easily upgradeable and affordable. I've calculated that these parts will cost about $720.66. Here's a list of the parts:

Motherboard:
Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard
Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Duo/Pentium D/Pentium 4, Socket T, nForce 680i
SLI, ATX, 8GB DDR2, 1333MHz

CPU:
(Sckt775) Intel Core2 Duo E6750 CPU @ 2.66GHz 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache 64-bit

Case:
RAIDMAX Scorpio ATX-868WYP Yellow Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W
Power Supply

RAM:
Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P. Memory (2 x 1024)

Video:
XFX GeForce 8500 GT Ultra Silent Cooling / 512MB DDR2 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / (Dual Link) DVI / VGA /
HDTV / Video Card

Hard Drive:
HITACHI Deskstar 7K160 HDS721680PLA380 (0A32727) 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache
SATA-300 Hard Drive - OEM

CD/DVD:
SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X
DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe -
OEM

I just want to know if these parts will work together and how to fix any problems with this set up and possibly minimize my cost. Thanks guys!

I'd go with a different power supply and case. That Raidmax is listed as "bad" on this thread (not my words, don't shoot the messenger)
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195
Also I'd recommend going with a more reputable brand for a HDD such as Western Digital or Seagate.
For gaming, look into the 8800GT as a reference point. The card you selected will not be capable of playing most new games sufficiently.

Skip the striker board. That is an expensive board. Get a P5K motherboard from asus. Also get a 8800gt card if you're into gaming.

I would recommend a power supply over 500 Watts and a quality name. Corsair, FSP, and Antec are a few that are recommended here. A good power supply will cost you $80 plus. However this is the component that is providing your system with power, why would you get cheap here?

Other suggestions are to find a seagate hard drive with 16 MB of cache, save a few dollars and get DDR2 800, and get the 8800 GT with 512 MB of RAM and 256-bit.

If you have not made a purchase yet and since upgradeablity is important to you, you might want to consider an AMD Athlon 6400 with the new Asus M3A board. That board will be compatible with the new AM3 processors which will probably own when they come out.
You definately need to be in DDR2 800 to get the best results. I am using that processor and I am playing Crysis currently, it is working flawlessly. You will also end up spending a lot less for an AMD rig.
The best Power supplies on the market in my opinion are FSP, Sparkle and Seasonic.

Did you miss this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231112

I would still go with this hd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148231 it comes with a 5yr warranty instead of the 3yrs you get with WD

I'd recommend getting an Evga video card instead of an Asus one, for the same price you can get a faster Evga card with better warranty. Here is a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130328

Wow you went all out, that 1222 CPU is simply awesome.
I agree wih Masaki, even though Asus makes awesome boards, Evga is your best bet for an Nvidia card.
The Seagate Doubledragon recommended is a better value especialy with the 5 year warranty.
Both WD and Seagate make great drives but in my opinion Seagate is just a bit better.

I have used Thermaltake and they are ok PSUs but this one here is $10 more but a much better power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151040

If you want to save some cash, you could get a new GeForce 9600GT. It performs closely to the 8800GT but is cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130328

Here's the new list:

-LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model LH-16A1S-15 - OEM $24.99

-COOLER MASTER Centurion 534 RC-534-KKN2-GP Black Aluminum & Mesh bezel / SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $49.99

-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST380815AS 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $43.99

-ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard $134.99

-LINKSKEY LKW-G553 PCI Wireless Card $15.99

-Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU ATX 12V 2.0 500W Power Supply $59.99

-AMD Opteron 1222 3.0GHz Socket AM2 103W Dual-Core Processor Model OSA1222CZBOX $175.00

-Rosewill RFA120L-B 120mm Blue LED Case Fan $3.99

-EVGA 512-P3-N862-AR GeForce 9600GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
-Kingston HyperX 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX6400D2K2/4G
Both for: $274.98

So....yea. Thats it. And i'm selling my current Laptop to pay for this by the way, so if any of you want a laptop for $900, send me a message. It'll come with 32-bit vista.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but this is a setup that I think I've been looking for. My only question is the power supply. Is 500w enough, or would a bigger power supply be better?
