SLI vs Crossfire????

What is the real difference between these two?

The main difference I am aware of from a consumer point of view, with SLI you have to have 2 identical cards. With Crossfire you can have a super card and a cheaper card supporting it as long as they are both Crossfire ready.
The articles Ezy listed explain the more technical differences.

Yes there is benefit. I had an ATI 1950 Pro and I backed it up with a 1650 Pro I felt a drastic difference while gaming. I have upgradd since then to 2 x 3870s
With SLI though, unless you are using 2 x 8800s its not worth it. I tried it with 2 x 7600GTs and it made insignificant difference over a single 7600GT

SLI is for 2 nvidia cards.

Crossfire is for 2 ati cards.

Now-a-days, you can run 4 ATI cards... or is that called CrossfireX...??
