I'm a bit new to building and would like some advice
Alright, so I'm building a new computer and I'm a bit new to it. I know the basic logistics, but I want to be 100% sure all the stuff I'm buying is going to be compatible. I have a fairly small budget (looking at about 300, maybe 4) to pickup a motherboard, CPU, HDD, new DVD burner, case and RAM. I am using it for gaming, but I'm not going to bother trying to run games like Crysis, or resource hog games. I do a fair bit gaming in the MMO and FPS realms. Here's what I've got so far. Thank you for any and all information!

Make that a sata connection dvd burner.
I wouldn't trust that motherboard at all. I wouldn't trust the power supply with that case either. Look at this thread for power supplies: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 We also don't recommend tigerdirect because of costumer service. Try newegg.com

Here's a list for a much faster computer with good quality parts from newegg.com:

I've got this thing laying around. Never been able to use it 'cause I don't have a PCI Express slot in my current computer. Is it an acceptable card, or would it be wise to just toss it? Edit: Also, does Newegg have a payment plan option like Tigerdirect has? Last edited by EternalLove; 03-12-2008 at 06:38 PM. |

That video card should work well, it was top of the line a while ago, but it should give you decent frame rates using medium settings. Newegg has something called Bill Me Later as payment plan: http://c1.neweggimages.com/UploadFil.../BML/index.htm. If that's not convenient to you and you want to use Tigerdirect, try to find the parts I recommended, they shouldn't be much more expensive, and it will be of a lot better quality than the parts in Tigerdirect combos.

What OS are you planning on using? Masaki put together an excellent build, but that DVD burner isn't listed as being compatible with Vista. If you are getting vista, go with this one.

Pretty much all DVD burners are vista compatible, even if it's not listed as compatible, I've used my BenQ DVD Burner (About 2 years old) with Vista Premium and Ultimate without problems.
