Need publication date on "Build Your Own PC" E-Book

I'm considering doing my second build of a computer, and I want to know how up-to-date is PC-Mech's latest "Build Your Own PC" E-Book. When was it last published or revised? My last build was in May of 2003, and I used PC-Mech's CD-Rom, dated December, 2002. It was very helpful to me in my choices of technology and brands to go with. But technology has advanced quite a bit since then, and I haven't been keeping up. I need something that will get me up to snuff with things like "Vista Capable" parts, optical hard drives, duel-core and quad-core processors, and so forth. I cannot find anything on PC-Mech's web site that indicates the publication date of their latest "Build Your Own PC" E-book. Is there anyone out there who's recently bought the E-book? Does it say on the E-book when it was last revised? Do you know of any other reference material available that's been put out very recently?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

If you're just looking for help in picking parts, we can help you in the forum. Just tell us your budget, what the main use would be, and any preferences for things like intel or amd, and we can give you a good starting point.

Thanks. First I want to research the parts that are available. Then if I have any questions about a part, or if I'm having difficulty choosing one part over another, I'll certainly ask on this forum.

You can get a good idea about parts if you just read a few threads in the build your own pc section here.

Not sure what the book includes, someone else might know better, but I'm just giving you another option.

Also, here is the guide from the site: http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/

Well, the CD I bought in 2003 was very helpful, and the info was only a few months old. It described how the different parts work, how they were developed, what purposes different technologies were good for, and so forth. All was in plain enough English so that a layman like myself could understand it well. It really helped me get the "big picture" in a computer build, and in figuring out what parts to consider using, and where to go to next in searching for parts.
