~$700 budget, help me out.
I have about a $700 budget. I want a PC that will run current games like Crysis, Stalker, CoD4, and BF2 all pretty-like
I already have an HDD, dvd-drive, and monitor (15'' LCD, not widescreen). I picked out a motherboard (the ever-popular ~$90 Gigabyte board), CPU (2.2ghz Intel Allendale), and RAM (2gb of some budget RAM). That leaves me with about $500 for a case, power supply, and video card. Here are my options... Antec Sonata III w/500w PSU - $130 eVGA 8800GTS (G92) - $240 w/ mail-in rebate A 19'' widescreen monitor - ~$150-175 Either that or I could spring for an Antec 900 and a Corsair PSU with the same GPU, and save up for a monitor after. |

Welcome to PCMech. That is a good start.
What motherboard are you planning to go with? Be sure to pick up DDR2-800 RAM. We recommend Corsair branded sticks. Since you already have a monitor, you might consider holding off on a new one and allocating a few dollars to the CPU. Go with a Core 2 Duo, such as the E6750 instead of an Allendale chip. Just an option to consider. Though games look better at 19" then 15".

I came up with this setup for $600.
Antec Sonata III - $130 Gigabyte MoBo - $90 2.2ghz Intel Allendale - $85 2GB RAM - $35 120mm case fan - $7 EVGA 8800GTS (G92) - $240 w/MIR Considering I'll probably stick with my 15'' LCD, I should have $100-150 to spare. How should I distribute the leftover money to get the most out of my rig? |

Thats the mobo. I don't want SLI, so it seems good. I've heard great things about it. |

That board will work fine.
Also, where are you purchasing your CPU from? I can't find a 2.2Ghz Allendale that cheap. The E4500 model is around $100-125. If you have spare cash, I'd go with this chip, the E6750: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115029 |

Is it really that much better? Here's the updated list with that CPU...
Antec Sonata III - $130 Gigabyte MoBo - $90 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 - $190 2GB RAM - $35 120mm case fan - $7 EVGA 8800GTS (G92) - $240 w/MIR Total - ~$750 shipped |

For a gaming system, the E6750 is a much better fit. Faster clock, more cache, faster FSB will all speed up your gaming performance.
That is a great list. |
