Using an old Optical Drive

My G41 laptop died over the summer (due to a motherboard issue). The CD-DVD/RW drive was working just fine last I tried. Can I salvage this for a new computer? It so, what would I need to do. If not, what are recommendations for buying a new one?

Thanks

A laptop drive will not fit into a desktop case without some modifications. It would be easier to just buy a new drive. They cost around $35. We recommend LiteOn Retail drives because they come with software.
