Some advice before the first build

Hello, I am new to the forum. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

My first concern is Static. I have a wrist strap, but is it necessary to have a mat too? Can you make your own mat?

Also, I have a concern about the video card and ram I just bought. (below DDR2 & DDR3). Are these compatible?

Welcome to PCMech. Yes, an anti-static wristband is a good investment. As long as you wear that and keep it connected to a grounded surface, you're in good shape. The video card's onboard memory is independent from the mainboard RAM, so no worries.

BTW, if you click the "Go Advanced" button, it will take you to a more detailed toolbar for posting. The button near the center that looks like a globe is the one to add a link. Cheers!
