"Low Memory" Error message on Startup

I just finished my first built, and everything seems to be working fine, but when I startup my computer with the operating disk inside, this error message comes up:
Windows NT has found only 0k of low memory. 512k of low memory is required to run Windows NT.
I don't know what it means or why it's saying this, because I have 2 gigs of RAM. Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix the problem?
