1000W isoverkill for this rig, and the one with the case is crap, do not use it. This PSU will power that system fine. I would go with the Q9450, it will be plenty fast enough.

Also, why did you create another thread? You should always keep everything in the same thread. A moderator will probably merge the two threads.

Thanks... And i made this thread is because this is the .. Build suggestion/rating whatever.. and the other was to get me started.

Hey Uhhh.. someone posted a CON about this..

Cons: First one literally blew up as soon as i turned it on the first time. White smoke poured out and it made a loud pop. Enermax next day aired me a replacement which lasted three months before failing itself, they are paying the shipping to have me RMA two-day air both ways.

what about this psu

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703009

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153039

also.. why does it same OEM or RETAIL at the end of the product.. whats the deal with that?

edit: LOL Forgot the 1 most important thing.. SPACE i'm gonna go with this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148278

also.. are these speakers good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836116153

i want Surround sound 7.1 and those are the only 7.1's on the site.. are they good and Loud?

You could get 4GB of RAM coupled with 64bit Windows (I thought of this because you are making such a killer PC anyway, why not?)

Also if you get Windows OEM rather than Retail, you will save a lot of money.

OEM means: Original Equipment Manufacturer. It just means that the part doesn't come with screws/cable/manuals/etc. This is fine when buying HDs/replacement optics.
Retail items mean you get screws/cables/manuals/software with the part.

Sorry about the RAM I didn't notice you had (4x) there, but I do now.

And OEM, well flanzig describes it well.

OEM means it is for system builders and won't come with a users manual or cables in some cases. In the case of a processor, it means it won't come with a stock heatsink so you will have to buy one. Retail means it is like the same thing you would purchase in a store. The only OEM component I would feel comfortable buying is the HDD and possibly the DVD burner if I knew I had enough SATA cables.

Are you going to be overclocking? If not, then flag the heatsink. A retail processor comes with an approved heatsink and using another one will void the 3-year warranty.

I would suggest:

Cheaper Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148274

Cheaper OEM Vista Ultimate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116213

If your case has an intake fan near the hard drive you shouldn't need a dedicated hard drive fan, but the link doesn't work, so I don't know exactly what the hard drive fan is.

That is a nice PSU.

Personally I wouldn't spend that much money on the keyboard, mouse, monitor and sound card. You could get an Xfi series sound card for ~$80 and I am sure it would sound great (example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102017 ). A 24" monitor would be quite a bit cheaper, but if you want a 28" I'm sure it will be very nice.

I have heard great things about the tuniq tower CPU cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001

Enjoy your build!

Reason why: The Intel i was going to get I did some reasearch and other people bought it and gave their advice etc and a friend i know irl had it.. He said that Intel Yes indeed had Quad Cores but the way they were working he did not like.. It was Dual coring 4 cores... 2 cores of each was working together and not simultaniously.. He said AMD works simultaniously meaning all 4 cores at the same time.. and Intel does pairs and quote "amd is faster" also he said intel likes to OVERCLOCK their items and sell witch I don't like. and AMD Doesn't. So i'm hearing more good things about AMD Then intel.. I'm going with AMD.

You are throwing away so much money here it's not even funny.

And your "friend" is one of the most uninformed I have ever heard.

Sure Intel's Q6600 isn't a "true" quad core, but it still runs strong against AMD.
The newer Q9XXX is faster than AMD.

Are you serious? You are already spending $3400 on a setup by spending $200 on a mouse and keyboard, $300 on an operating system, $500 on cd drives, and $175 on a no name sound card.
But before we start complaining about things being expensive and choosing inferior parts for a build..

I am not attacking you. I WANT TO HELP YOU

I fell into the exact same trap as you when I build my first PC. I started off very modest with a low budget. Eventually I got hyped up about having my super PC! It was going to be so sweet, until I realized I could buy a nice car for what I was going to spend.

Take a step back and realize what you are doing. Stop listening to your "friend" and start making your own decisions!

Believe me. After about 6 months, when you are looking at your $3400 rig you are going to wonder why you spent so much when you could have gotten the same computer for $2000 with better cooling.

Just please, seriously think this through.

I won't post on this thread anymore so you don't have to worry about me if you take offense to this.
I'm just saying, I'm so glad I cut my budget in half. You can always slowly upgrade, but if you buy the most expensive rig now, you will always depreciate much faster than you could ever imagine.

In my opinion both Intel and AMD will do the job for you just fine, the slight differences in performance are negligible. As a gamer what you want is the best video card. How much you spend on the CPU will make very little difference when you are looking at such powerful processors regardless what brand you go with.

Umm.. I already have a car.. and I want my computer to be the best.. so... yeah.. i dont want to slowly upgrade i'm gonna buy it all right now. I need this computer for personal reasons... Going to design games and graphic design along with hard gaming.. I don't mind spending this much. I was planning on spending over 4 thousand. and i didnt reach that mark. I'm completely happy with what i am doing. Thank you for your advice but I have the money to spend.

I agree with him. You are spending a lot of money on this build for VERY MINIMAL performance increases. I don't know what your friend told you about overclocking, but Intel CPUs tend to overclock BETTER than AMD CPU's, meaning you can get more additional free preformance out of an Intel CPU than an AMD CPU. Intel CPU’s are better than AMD CPU’s at the moment, so of course AMD CPU’s will be cheaper.

Take a look at these charts and you will see what I mean:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...1075&chart=419

Since there have been a lot of changes to your build lately, I will list a full build with my recommendations:

~$205 (incl. tax) Q6600 - If you have a Fry's Electronics nearby (Locations: http://shop1.outpost.com/ac/storelocator/index.jsp ), they have the Q6600 on sale for $189.99 + Tax until Tuesday or until they run out ( http://shopping.dallasnews.com/ROP/a...20661073&type= ). I think that is a better deal than the AMD Quad Core, but if you don't have a Fry's nearby you could probably just get the AMD Quad Core (and the AMD motherboard), or get the Q6600 from newegg for $235: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018
Or if you want to get one of the new 45nm Quad Cores, this one looks like a semi-reasonable price: $280 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115040

$50 - Tuniq Tower CPU Cooler – Retail - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001 – Like I said, I have heard great things about this CPU cooler.

$6 – Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007

$250??? – Intel Motherboard w/ SLI support – I am not up on SLI motherboards, so someone else will be able to make suggestions for you.

$80 – 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122 – Unless you get a 64 bit OS, you can not use more than 4GB’s of ram, your computer will not be able to use 8GB’s so just get 4GB’s.

$410 – 2x 8800GT - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130318 - I found this link VERY interesting. It looks like SLIing 2 8800GT’s will offer way more performance than getting a single 9800GX2, and it will be cheaper. http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/13...k06/index.html . - Compare these charts:
1. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=828&chart=377
2. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...1057&chart=317
At your monitor’s resolution, 2x 8800GT’s are nearly twice as good as an 8800Ultra (similar performance to a 9800GX2)

$240 – 1TB Seagate - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148274 – The drive you picked is more expensive and a server grade hard drive. I don’t see any reason to get a server hard drive for a desktop computer.

$360 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106037 – You probably don’t even need a blu-ray burner, I would just get a reader unless you specifically plan to burn blu-ray disks. Reader: $130 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106227

$33 – DVD burner w/ lightscribe - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106072 – I highly doubt you will need to do on the fly blu-ray burning very often, so you should just save the ~$100 and get a single blu-ray burner and use it for copying and burning.

$66 – X-fi Xtreme Audio - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102017 - This should do fine. There is no reason to spend $175 on a sound card.

$170 – Vista Ultimate 32 bit OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116213 – There is NO REASON to spend $100 more to get the retail boxed Vista Ultimate.

$150 – 750W PC Power & Cooling - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703009 – Nice PSU with a strong single rail. SLI certified for 2x 8800GT’s: http://www.pcpower.com/power-supply/...crossfire.html

$95 - RAIDMAX AZTEC ATX-619WBP Black/ Silver SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156092 - Looks like a nice case with good cooling.

$360 - ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q241wb Black 24" - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116104 – There’s no reason to spend $600+ for a 28” monitor when you can get a 24” with the same resolution as the 28” for $360.

$55 - Logitech X-530 70 watts RMS 5.1 Black Speaker System - OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121126 – Nice speaker system, I don’t see why you would get a $150 speaker system when you can get this for ~$100 less.

$30 – Microsoft Laser Mouse - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105183 – I personally have this mouse and it is very nice. It has 5 buttons just like yours and each one is programmable to a variety of functions. I just think it is ridiculous to spend $100 on a mouse, but if you must, at least get it for less from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104079

$12 – Microsoft Keyboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823109164 – Once again, I don’t see why you feel the need to spend $100 on a Keyboard, but if you must, newegg has it cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...G15%2bKeyboard

The Front 120mm intake fan on your case will keep your hard drive plenty cool. A hard drive cooler will just add noise to your computer.

Your motherboard will probably come with 2 SATA Cables and as long as you buy one of your CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Drives Retail (not OEM), it will come with a SATA cable, giving you enough sata cables, so you won’t have to buy any separately.

$2572 Total (this includes a $250 estimate for a SLI Intel motheboard), before shipping.
That is $1143 less than your most recent setup and it will play games quite a bit better than yours. When gaming, the Video Card(s) are a lot more important than the CPU, so I think that if you really want an AMD CPU, it won't necessarily hurt your preformance because both are high end processors, but I would personally go with Intel because they are ahead of AMD right now.

The point that I and others are trying to make is that you can pay a lot more for a small performance increase in a lot of areas, but it usually isn’t worth it if you stop and think about it. If you want to have a really nice computer a year from now, put that $1,100 in the bank and upgrade your video card(s) and CPU in a year with the money you saved.

Enjoy your build!
